Abstract
We show that the energy threshold for nuclear recoils in the XENON10 dark matter search data can be lowered to ~ 1 keV, by using only the ionization signal. In other words, we make no requirement that a valid event contain a primary scintillation signal. We therefore relinquish incident particle type discrimination, which is based on the ratio of ionization to scintillation in liquid xenon. This method compromises the detector's ability to precisely determine the z coordinate of a particle interaction. Abstract
Industrial managers are in the expectation that the new generation factories bring more competitiveness to the manufacturing companies through innovative approaches, methods and tools that support the factory planning process. The concept of "factory as a product" perceives the factory as a complex long life product introducing design advantages for factory planning and optimization, seeking to improve quality, reduce ramp-up, product delivery and overall reduce time and costs. In order to attain these objectives, there is an urgent need for an innovative and suitable Virtual Factory Framework to structure the development of new generation factories. © 2010 IFAC.

Abstract
Understanding driver behavior is critical towards ensuring superior levels of safety and environmental sustainability in intelligent transportation systems. Existing solutions for vital sign extraction are generally intrusive in that they affect the comfort of the driver and may consequently lead to biased observations. Moreover, low-complexity devices such as GPS receivers and the multitude of sensors present in the vehicle are yet to be exploited to the full extent of their capabilities. We present a real-life system that combines wearable non-intrusive heart wave monitors with a wireless enabled computing platform capable of gathering and processing the data streams of multiple in-vehicle sources. Observed variables include electrocardiogram, vehicle location, speed, acceleration, fuel consumption, and pedal position, among others. Preliminary results show that the proposed system is well suited not only for characterizing driver behavior but also for identifying and mapping potentially dangerous road segments and intersections. ©2010 IEEE.

COLLABORATIVE NETWORKS FOR A SUSTAINABLE WORLD
Abstract
Current market dynamics require European SME's to focus on complex products manufacturing and to build non-hierarchical business networks, to assure competitiveness and sustainability. Such trend demands appropriate methods for network formation and management, including reference collaboration processes and supporting ICT tools. This paper presents a framework to support SME's in the creation and management of non-hierarchical networks designed and developed within the European RTD project Net-Challenge. This framework includes methodologies, processes and ICT decision support tools aiming at the efficient creation and management of these networks assuring quick response times and competitive and differentiated offerings.

Abstract
The interrogation of a suspended-core Fabry-Perot interferometric cavity through the illumination of a dual wavelength Raman fiber laser is reported. The proposed scheme is based on the use of a dual wavelength source for the generation of two quadrature phase-shifted signals that allows the recovery of the temperature change. The dual wavelength Raman fiber laser is based on fiber Bragg gratings combined with a virtual mirror. The use of this source allows a passive and accurate interrogation of the temperature variation, while taking advantage of the Rayleigh scattering growth as a virtual mirror in the laser.
