Abstract
This paper presents the design and development of a prototype sensor unit for implementation in a long-term glucose monitoring system suitable for estimating glucose levels in people suffering from diabetes mellitus. The system utilizes osmotic pressure as the sensing mechanism and consists of a sensor prototype that is integrated together with a pre-amplifier and data acquisition unit for both data recording and processing. The sensor prototype is based on an embedded silicon absolute pressure transducer and a semipermeable nanoporous membrane that is enclosed in the sensor housing. The glucose monitoring system facilitates the integration of a low power microcontroller that is combined with a wireless inductive powered communication link. Experimental verification have proven that the system is capable of tracking osmotic pressure changes using albumin as a model compound, and thereby show a proof of concept for novel long term tracking of blood glucose from remote sensor nodes. © 2011 IFSA.

Abstract
The use of traditional input devices such as keyboards and mice can become a huge obstacle for older adults in interacting with computer systems. Using Natural User Interfaces (NUI's), more specifically using gestures or movements on a multi-touch device, can be a good alternative to overcome these dificulties. This paper analyses the state of the art and identifies a set of criteria relevant to classify the projects in this area. The resulting classification enables us to recognize research opportunities on Natural User Interfaces, and namely multi-touch interfaces for elderly.

Abstract
In critical situations, such as decision making in healthcare, is necessary to have access to all of the patient's information, the information must be reliable, and must be accessed in an easy and fast way. These requirements make medical information systems of extreme importance. However in today's molds and with the advent of the Internet and mobile devices, a paradigm shift, from the current isolated systems to interoperable distributed systems, that take advantage of ubiquitous computing, is needed. The present work proposes an architecture that aims to answer the needs of interoperability between heterogeneous systems and the need of ubiquity of medical information systems. A prototype was developed that tries to provide interoperability through a service-oriented architecture using web services. A mobile component was also developed to enable ubiquitous access to medical information. This work was based on the author's knowledge about the Portuguese National Health Service.
