Abstract
The vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT) have been suffering an increased acceptance for urban wind turbines integration in the future smart grid for decentralized generation (DG). The VAWT have several advantages over the more conventional horizontal axis wind turbines (HAWT): the smaller number of components; low sound emissions; their insensitivity to fast changes in wind flow direction; a lower architectural visual impact; the ability to operate closer to the ground; and others. But, the VAWT aerodynamic performance is more complex to simulate and predict due to its three dimensional operation. Several mathematical models have been presented to predict the VAWT performance, such as the double multiple streamtube (DMS) model. With the aim of presenting a tool to ease the study of complex shaped VAWTs, being at the same time able to be easily integrated in computational design tools, a new approach to the DMS model is presented in this paper.

Abstract
American and European Legislation for protection of medical data agree that the patient has the right to play a pivotal role in the decisions regarding the content and distribution of her/his medical records. The Role Based Access Control (RBAC) model is the most commonly used authorization model in healthcare. The first goal of this work is to review if existing models and standards provide for patients accessing their medical records and customizing access control rules, the second goal is to define and propose an authorization model based on RBAC to be used and customized by the patient. A literature review was performed and encompassed 22 articles and standards from which 12 were included for analysis. Results show that existing standards define guidelines for these issues but they are too generic to be directly applied to real healthcare settings. The proposed authorization model combines characteristics of RBAC, ISO/TS 13606-4, temporal constraints and break the glass. With this model we hope to start bridging the gap between legislation and what really happens in practice in terms of patients controlling and being actively involved in their healthcare. Future work includes the implementation and evaluation of the proposed model in a healthcare setting.

Abstract
Assistive technology enables people to achieve independence when performing daily tasks and it enhances their overall quality of life. Visual information is the basis for most navigational tasks, so visually impaired individuals are at disadvantage due to the lack of sufficient information about their surrounding environment. With recent advances in inclusive technology it is possible to extend the support given to people with visual disabilities in terms of their mobility. In this context we propose and describe the Blavigator project, whose global objective is to assist visually impaired people in their navigation on indoor and outdoor environments. This paper is focused mainly on the Computer Vision module of the Blavigator prototype. We propose an object collision detection algorithm based on disparity images. The proposed algorithm uses a 2D Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition image optimization algorithm and a two layer disparity image segmentation to detect nearby objects. (C) 2012 The Authors. Abstract
Developers building cryptography into security-sensitive applications face a daunting task. Not only must they understand the security guarantees delivered by the constructions they choose, they must also implement and combine them correctly and efficiently. Cryptographic compilers free developers from this task by turning high-level specifications of security goals into efficient implementations. Yet, trusting such tools is hard as they rely on complex mathematical machinery and claim security properties that are subtle and difficult to verify. In this paper we present ZKCrypt, an optimizing cryptographic compiler achieving an unprecedented level of assurance without sacrificing practicality for a comprehensive class of cryptographic protocols, known as Zero-Knowledge Proofs of Knowledge. The pipeline of ZKCrypt integrates purpose-built verified compilers and verifying compilers producing formal proofs in the CertiCrypt framework. By combining the guarantees delivered by each stage, ZKCrypt provides assurance that the output implementation securely realizes the abstract proof goal given as input. We report on the main characteristics of ZKCrypt, highlight new definitions and concepts at its foundations, and illustrate its applicability through a representative example of an anonymous credential system. Abstract

First published October 13, 2011; doi:10.1152/japplphysiol.00802.2011.-This study examined the effects of 3 wk of either endurance or strength training on plasticity of the neural mechanisms involved in the soleus H reflex and V wave. Twenty-five sedentary healthy subjects were randomized into an endurance group (n = 13) or strength group (n = 12). Evoked V-wave, H-reflex, and M-wave recruitment curves, maximal voluntary contraction (MVC), and time-to-task-failure (isometric contraction at 40% MVC) of the plantar flexors were recorded before and after training. Following strength training, MVC of the plantar flexors increased by 14.4 +/- 5.2% in the strength group (P < 0.001), whereas time-to-task-failure was prolonged in the endurance group (22.7 +/- 17.1%; P < 0.05). The V wave-to-maximal M wave (V/M-max) ratio increased significantly (55.1 +/- 28.3%; P < 0.001) following strength training, but the maximal H wave-to-maximal M wave (H-max/M-max) ratio remained unchanged. Conversely, in the endurance group the V/Mmax ratio was not altered, whereas the Hmax/Mmax ratio increased by 30.8 +/- 21.7% (P < 0.05). The endurance training group also displayed a reduction in the H-reflex excitability threshold while the H-reflex amplitude on the ascending limb of the recruitment curve increased. Strength training only elicited a significant decrease in H-reflex excitability threshold, while H-reflex amplitudes over the ascending limb remained unchanged. These observations indicate that the H-reflex pathway is strongly involved in the enhanced endurance resistance that occurs following endurance training. On the contrary, the improvements in MVC following strength training are likely attributed to increased descending drive and/or modulation in afferents other than Ia afferents.

Abstract
This paper focuses on the modelling and simulation for a photovoltaic system formed by monocrystalline solar modules. The objective is to find the parameters of the nonlinear I-V equation by adjusting the curve at three points: open circuit, maximum power, and short circuit. This paper brings a novel iterative procedure to find the value of diode ideality factor, series and equivalent shunt resistances. Simulation studies are carried out in order to uncover temperature dependence, solar radiation change, and output power variation. Finally, conclusions are duly drawn.
