Abstract
Despite the prevailing paradigm of user-friendliness and enjoyment in mainstream game design and user interface design, intentional friction in game user interfaces that can be used to create meaningful experiences and to encourage reflection in players. This work aims to explore such use of intentional friction, providing designers with a valuable resource to generate unconventional game interfaces. As a starting point, we previously identified six strategies for intentional friction: (1) exploit memory shortcomings; (2) faulty feedback; (3) mismatched mental models; (4) impairment of ability; (5) deliberate inefficiency; and (6) oppressive constraints. Afterwards, to help operationalise these strategies and identify others, we ran co-creation workshops with game and UI designers, which lead to the development of a tool composed of three decks of cards, combining additional friction strategies, intentions, emotions, and ideation triggers, and enabling designers to create expressive game interfaces that intentionally incorporate friction as a design strategy. The Friction Firestarter toolkit is intended to inspire designers to explore various options and think creatively about friction in UI design. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Abstract
This paper addresses the challenges of integrating large shares of renewable energy sources into the power system, focusing on managing operational reserves in multi-area systems and their long-term adequacy. Unlike previous studies, this paper investigates the long-term impact of procurement and activation of operational reserve in adjacent areas, considering energy scheduling and interconnection line constraints. Three procurement schemes for multi-area energy and reserve exchanges are proposed and analyzed through Sequential Monte Carlo Simulation. These schemes vary in their approach to interconnection line capacity constraints and the simultaneous or phased procurement of energy and synchronized reserve. The mathematical operationalization of these schemes is achieved through simple linear programming models, facilitating the quantification of marginal prices for both products. The impact of these schemes on operational reserve adequacy, marginal prices, and interconnection line utilization is demonstrated using configurations of the IEEE RTS 96 system. This analysis incorporates long-term uncertainty and diverse operational conditions and provides valuable insights into the interplay between energy and reserve procurement strategies in multi-area systems.

Abstract
Wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE) has revolutionized the field of gastrointestinal examinations, being MedtronicTM WCE one of the most used in clinics. In those WCE videos, medical experts use RAPID READERTM tool to annotate findings in videos. However, the frame annotations are not available in an open format and, when exported, they have different resolutions and some annotated artefacts that make difficult their localization in the original videos. This difficult the use of WCE medical experts' annotations in the research of new computed-aid diagnostic (CAD) methods. In this paper, we propose a methodology to compare image similarities and evaluate it in a private MedtronicTM WCE SB3 video dataset to automatically identify the annotated frames in the videos. We used state-of-the-art pre-trained convolutional neural network (CNN) models, including MobileNet, InceptionResNetv2, ResNet50v2, VGG19, VGG16, ResNet101v2, ResNet152v2, and DenseNet121, as frame features extractors and compared them with the Euclidean distance. We evaluated the methodology performance on a private dataset consisting of 100 WCE videos, totalling 905 frames. The experimental results showed promising performance. The MobileNet model achieved an accuracy of 94% for identifying the first match, while the top 5, top 10, and top 20 matches were identified with accuracies of 94%, 94%, and 98%, respectively. The VGG16 and ResNet50v2 models also demonstrated strong performance, achieving accuracies ranging from 88% to 93% for various match positions. These results highlight the effectiveness of our proposed methodology in localizing target frames and even identifying similar frames very use useful for training data-driven models in CAD research. Abstract
One of the main challenges of one-way carsharing systems is to maximize profit by attracting potential customers and utilizing the fleet efficiently. Pricing plans are mid or long-term decisions that affect customers' decision to join a carsharing system and may also be used to influence their travel behavior to increase fleet utilization e.g., favoring rentals on off-peak hours. These plans contain different attributes, such as registration fee, travel distance fee, and rental time fee, to attract various customer segments, considering their travel habits. This paper aims to bridge a gap between business practice and state of the art, moving from unique single-tariff plan assumptions to a realistic market offer of multi-attribute plans. To fill this gap, we develop a mixed-integer linear programming model and a solving method to optimize the value of plans' attributes that maximize carsharing operators' profit. Customer preferences are incorporated into the model through a discrete choice model, and the Brooklyn taxi trip dataset is used to identify specific customer segments, validate the model's results, and deliver relevant managerial insights. The results show that developing customized plans with time- and location-dependent rates allows the operators to increase profit compared to fixed-rate plans. Sensitivity analysis reveals how key parameters impact customer choices, pricing plans, and overall profit.

Abstract
Energy consumption has increased exponentially due to population growth leading to an increasing impact on natural resources. Green hydrogen (H-2) offers a safer alternative to fossil fuels, making it a promising alternative for sustainable energy consumption. However, due to H-2's flammability it is crucial to monitor its concentrations in the environment. Optical sensors have been developed to monitor H-2 concentrations in harsh environments with high sensitivity and remote measurement. In this work, a numerical study and experimental validation of an optical fiber sensor based on Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) for H-2 detection are presented. This sensor is composed of a multi-mode fiber with a SPR structure of a metal/dielectric/Pd, where the Pd acts as a sensitive layer. The plasmonic active materials studied are Ag and Au, while TiO2 and SiO2 are used as dielectrics, finding that the metal materials have more impact on the SPR band definition, while the dielectric layers have an impact on the band spectral position. The optimized configuration with 25nm/60nm/3nm of Au/TiO2/Pd was experimentally developed, obtaining a wavelength shift of 19nm for 2kPa of H-2, validating the numerical results, and confirming the possibility of using this type of system for H-2 detection.
