Abstract
Information visualization commonly aids the understanding of the evolution of spatiotemporal phenomena. The current work proposes a novel approach to visually represent spatiotemporal phenomena based on the automated generation of static and interactive visual narratives that summarize the evolution of a spatiotemporal phenomenon. The visual narrative is composed of an interactive storyboard that consists of a set of frames that represent events of interest in the phenomenon. Towards corroborating the hypothesis that this approach would effectively and efficiently transmit the evolution of spatiotemporal phenomena, we conceptualized a visualization framework, identifying visual metaphors that map spatiotemporal transformations into visual content and defining the parameterization approaches for spatiotemporal features. We developed a functional prototype implementing the conceptual solution and presented issues encountered regarding visual clutter and parameterization. We conducted a user study based on a questionnaire which concluded that the proposed approach can be effective and efficient for understanding the evolution of these phenomena in terms of transformations for a subset of possible scenarios.

Livro de Atas do 1º SEVj - Seminário Ensino de Videojogos

Abstract

Abstract
In this paper, Lagrangian dual formulation is used to solve the Environmental/Economic Dispatch problem. The proposed method, that results quite different from the metaheuristic methods employed in literature, was tested on a six generating units system. The results obtained improve others reported in previous investigations, by simultaneously diminishing the total fuel cost and pollutants emissions.

SUSTAINABLE ENERGY GRIDS & NETWORKS

Abstract
One of the most important reasons of smart grids (SGs) is renewable energies (REs) increase and demand response (DR). Present methods are not practical in the case of high REs presence in SGs and should be revised. The flexibility of production is low in SGs with high REs penetration, and loads should follow the production. The increase in the domestic controllable loads (DCLs) flexibility compensates the low flexibility in production. As a result, DR is essential in SGs with high share of REs. This study presents a new method for DR with high REs penetration. Also, a new formulation for electrical appliances is provided in this study, including washing machine, dish washer and heating/cooling system. In the proposed method, the RE resources produced power is considered in addition to loads condition. The controllable loads are transferred to the time when the difference between load and RE generated power is maximum (considering the consumers' welfare). The results show that applying this method will increase the flexibility of consumption and REs penetration in SGs. The study is performed for the Ekbatan residential complex that includes three smart microgrids and a 63/20 kV substation in Tehran, Iran.

ENERGIES

Abstract
One important goal of the climate commitment in the European Union (EU) is to reduce primary energy demand in the transport sector and increase the use of renewables, since around 33% of primary energy is consumed in this sector. Therefore, the EU ordered its member states to raise the number of electric vehicles (EVs) within Europe. Consequently, the energy demand for electricity will rise as a function of the number of EVs. To avoid local grid overload and guarantee a higher percentage of clean energy, EV charging stations can be supported by a combined system of grid-connected photovoltaic modules and battery storage. In this paper, the focus lies on the feasibility and economic aspects of such systems. To provide an overview of the different e-charging station combinations, a support tool was modelled and developed, making it possible to size and manage EVs charging stations with only a few input parameters. Thanks to its easy handling, the tool suits a wide spectrum of users. Due to enhanced optional settings, this tool is suitable for detailed input parameters for professionals as well. Input categories are basically divided into the photovoltaic (PV) system, battery storage, the charging station itself, and investment analysis. The tool supports decisions for solar charging stations designed for different parking locations like offices, schools, and public and private places.
