Abstract
To support the full adoption of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) in modern production lines, effective solutions need to be extended to the technological domains of robotics and industrial automation. This paper addresses the description, application and results of usage of the Open Scalable Production System (OSPS) and its underlying skill-based robot programming ideology to support machine tending of additive manufacturing operations by a mobile manipulator. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Abstract
Very few quantitative studies assess the impact of IPR protection mechanisms on the competitiveness of companies, particularly those whose creation and existence is often attributed to high technology/knowledge intensity. The present study aims to fill this gap. Through a direct survey targeting startups located in S&T parks and incubators, we assess the direct and indirect impact of IPR protection mechanisms. Logistics estimations based on a sample of 48 Portuguese companies suggest that, considered globally, formal IPR protection is detrimental to the companies' competitiveness. Notwithstanding, when IPR protection mechanisms are discriminated by type, the results indicate that the use of informal protection mechanisms, such as lead time and trade secrets, fosters the companies'competitiveness, whereas the use of formal protection mechanisms, in particular, patents, trademarks and geographical indications, negatively impacts on competitiveness. The size and innovation profile of the company intermediates the influence of IPR protection on its competitiveness. (C) 2018 Journal of Innovation & Knowledge. Published by Elsevier Espana, S.L.U.

Abstract
In the context of digital transformation by governments, the public sector and other organizations, many information is moving to digital platforms. Chatbots and similar question-answering systems are becoming popular to answer information queries, opposed to browsing online repositories or webpages. State-of-the-art approaches for these systems may be laborious to implement, hard to train and maintain, and also require a high level of expertise. This work explores the definition of a generic framework to systematically build question-answering systems. A sandbox implementation of this framework enables the deployment of turnkey systems, directly from already existing collections of documents. These systems can then be used to provide a question-answering system communication channel to enrich the organization digital presence.

Abstract
In a growing number of domains, such as IoT for e-health and smart cities, the provisioning of end-to-end services to the users depends on the proper interoperation of multiple systems, forming a new distributed system, often subject to timing constraints. To ensure interoperability and integrity, it is important to conduct integration tests that verify the interactions with the environment and between the system components in key scenarios. To solve the test automation challenges, we propose algorithms for decentralized conformance checking and test input generation, and for checking and enforcing the conditions (local observability and controllability) that allow decentralized test execution. With this, we expect to improve the fault detection and localization capabilities and reduce the communication overhead comparatively to other model-based testing approaches. Our approach will be validated using real case studies from industrial partners.

Abstract
Strain and temperature are critical parameters to monitor in Li-ion batteries (LIBs) to improve their safety and long-term cycling stability. High local current densities can result in a massive heat release, decomposition of the electrolyte, gas evolution and even explosion of the battery cell, known as thermal runaway. However, the corrosive chemical environment in the batteries is a challenge to monitor strain and temperature. Optical fiber sensors, due to their high chemical stability and small diameter, can be embedded within the LIBs, thus becoming an interesting solution for operando and in situ measurements. In this work, a hybrid sensing network constituted by fiber Bragg gratings and Fabry-Perot cavities is proposed for the discrimination of strain and temperature. The proof-of-concept was performed by attaching the sensing network to the surface of a smart phone battery. Afterwards, it was embedded in a Li-ion pouch cell to monitor and simultaneously discriminate internal strain and temperature variations in three different locations. Higher thermal and strain variations are observed in the middle position. The methodology presented proves to be a feasible and non-invasive solution for internal, real-time, multipoint and operando temperature and strain monitoring of LIBs, which is crucial for their safety.
