JOURNAL OF COMPUTER-AIDED MOLECULAR DESIGN
Abstract
New designs for Magnetic Resonance Imaging contrast agents are presented. Essentially, they all are host-guest inclusion complexes between. gamma-cyclodextrins and polyazamacrocycles of gadolinium (III) ion. Substitutions have been made to the host to optimise the host-guest association. Molecular mechanics calculations have been performed, using the UFF force field for metals, to decide on the suitability of the substitutions, and to evaluate the host-guest energies of association. Interesting general conclusions have been obtained, concerning the improvement of Magnetic Resonance Imaging contrast agents; namely, a set of rational methodologies have been deduced to improve the association between the gadolinium (III) chelates and the cyclodextrins, and their efficiency is demonstrated with a large set of substituted complexes, opening new doors to increase the diagnostic capabilities of Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Abstract
This paper presents a new meta-heuristic (EPSO) built putting together the best features of Evolution Strategies (ES) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). Examples of the superiority of EPSO over classical PSO are reported. The paper also describes the application of EPSO to real world problems, including an application in Opto-electronics and another in Power Systems.

Abstract
This paper describes a new concept of a Negotiation Aid System, developed over a GIS (Geographic Information System) and designed to facilitate reaching compromises among agents such as investors, environmental groups and governmental agencies, when deciding the location and sizing of new renewable energy sources in a region. The core model of an Actor is similar to a Fuzzy Inference System of the Takagi-Sugeno type, built from a definition of preferences and levels of acceptability. An outranking method is employed to define geographical places of less conflict among the several Actors negotiating. An application to the region of La Rioja, in Spain, is described.

Abstract
This paper presents a new optimization model EPSO, Evolutionary Particle Swarm Optimization,. inspired in both Evolutionary Algorithms and in Particle Swarm Optimization algorithms: The fundamentals of the method are described, and an application to the problem of Loss minimization and Voltage control is presented, with very good results.

Abstract
Penetration of renewable energy sources in isolated and weakly interconnected power systems can be increased in a secure and reliable way, if advanced control tools are available to the operators of these systems. In this paper the functions of MORE CARE are described. This is an advanced control software system aiming to optimize the operation of isolated and weakly interconnected systems by increasing the share of wind energy and other renewable forms, taking into account pumped hydro storage facilities and providing advanced on-line security functions, both in preventive and corrective mode. The main features of the control system comprise advanced software modules for load and wind power forecasting, unit commitment and economic dispatch of the conventional and renewable units and on-line security assessment capabilities integrated in a friendly Man-Machine environment. In this way, penetration of renewable energy sources in isolated systems can be increased in a secure and reliable way. Pilot installations of advanced control functions are foreseen on the islands of Crete, Ireland and Madeira.

Abstract
We describe an integrated methodology to compute long-term marginal prices in distribution networks. Long-term marginal prices are considered the most interesting and economically sound way of allocating network costs to users. Additionally, they inherently deal with the revenue-reconciliation problem, as they generally do not require other large supplementary tariff terms. The proposed methodology uses fuzzy sets to model uncertainties in load forecasts and considers several criteria to guide the identification of solutions. At the end, there is a final decision-making step to select the most adequate expansion plan according to the preferences of the decision-maker.
