Abstract
Ocean sewage outfalls are major sources of contaminants to coastal ocean ecosystems. This method of disposal has advantages in terms of economy and relative societal impact, but it also raises important concerns about public health and ecosystem preservation. Autonomous Underwater Vehicles have already been shown to be very useful for monitoring routine of ocean outfalls. The major advantage of this technology over traditional methods is the ability to collect high-resolution data which can be very valuable for environmental impact assessment and comparison with plume prediction models. Once the data has been collected in the field it is necessary to extrapolate from monitoring samples to unsampled locations. Geostatistics has been successfully used to obtain information, for example, regarding the spatial distribution of soil properties. In this work geostatistics is used to model and map the spatial distribution of temperature and salinity measurements gathered by MARES AUV in a monitoring campaign to Foz do Arelho outfall, with the aim of distinguishing the effluent plume from the receiving waters and characterizing its spatial variability in the vicinity of the discharge. The results demonstrate that this methodology provides good estimates of the dispersion of effluent and it is therefore very valuable in assessing the environmental impact and managing sea outfalls.

Abstract
Several monitoring approaches have been used to understand the physical, chemical, and biological processes associated with coastal sewage discharges. However, these efforts have not improved the understanding of the interaction of effluent plume/coastal ocean processes. Autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) have already been shown to be very useful for performing high-resolution surveys of small features such as outfall plumes. Some of the advantages of these platforms include easier field logistics, low cost per deployment, good spatial coverage, sampling over repeated sections, and the ability to perform feature based or adaptive sampling. Once the data have been collected in the field, it is necessary to extrapolate from monitoring samples to unsampled locations. Geostatistics has been successfully used to obtain information; for example, regarding the spatial distribution of soil properties. Besides giving estimated values at unsampled locations, it provides a measure of the accuracy of the estimate, which is a significant advantage over traditional methods used to assess pollution. In this work, geostatistics is used to model and map the spatial distribution of temperature measurements gathered by an AUV in a sea ouffall monitoring campaign, with the aim of distinguishing the effluent plume from the receiving waters and characterizing its spatial variability in the vicinity of the discharge. Abstract
Designers aspire to create engaging and desirable experiences. To that end they study users, aiming to better understand their preferences, ways of thinking and desired outcomes. In the service sector this task is more intricate as experiences encompass the whole customer journey, or the sequence of moments of interaction between customer and company. In services, one poorly designed interaction can severely compromise the overall experience. Despite experience holistic nature, current methods address its components separately, failing to provide an overall systematized picture. This paper presents Customer Experience Modeling, a novel multidisciplinary approach to systematize, represent and evaluate customer experiences to guide service and interaction design efforts. We illustrate this method with an application to a multimedia service provider built upon 17 interviews with service users.

Abstract
In order to develop the new industrial paradigm, it is necessary to explore a framework supported by planning and operational tools. Indeed, it becomes clear that more and more the next factories need to be increasingly more flexible, agile and knowledge-based in order to be able to adapt in real time to the continuously changing market demands, technology options and regulations, as well as accelerate the design process and optimise production. Therefore, in this paper a framework capable of supporting the factory planning will be presented based on predefined templates and product requirements. Furthermore, the Factory Templates will allow for process deployment, control and evaluation in real-time. © 2011 AISTI.

Abstract
Wafer slicing in photovoltaic industry is mainly done using multi-wire saw machines. The selection of set of bricks (parallelepiped block of crystalline silicon) to be sawn together poses difficult production scheduling decisions. The objective is to maximize the utilization of the available cutting length to improve the process throughput. We address the problem presenting a mathematical formulation and an algorithm that aims to solve it in very short running times while delivering superior solutions. The algorithm employs a reactive greedy randomized adaptive search procedure with some enhancements. Computational experiments proved its effectiveness and efficiency to solve real-world based problems and randomly generated instances. Implementation of an on-line decision system based on this algorithm can help photovoltaic industry to reduce slicing costs making a contribution for its competitiveness against other sources of energy.
