Abstract
This paper proposes the implementation of a framework for the development of collaborative extended reality (XR) applications. Using the framework, developers can focus on understanding which collaborative mechanisms they need to implement for the respective reality model application. In this paper we specifically study collaborative mechanisms around object manipulation in Virtual Reality (VR). As such, we planned a VR prototype using the proposed framework, which was used to validate the various interaction and collaboration features in VR. The gathered data from the user tests revealed that they enjoyed the experience and the collaborative mechanisms helped them work together. Furthermore, to understand whether the framework allowed for the development of XR applications, we decided to implement an augmented reality prototype as well. Afterwards, we ran an experiment with 4 VR and 3 AR users sharing the same virtual environment. The experiment was successful at allowing them to interact in real-time in the same shared environment. Therefore, the framework enables the development of XR applications that support different mixed-reality technologies.

Abstract
This paper proposes an agent-based simulation system for Dam Break Emergency Plan validation. The proposed system shows that integrating GIS data with an agent-based approach provides a successful simulation platform for the emergency plan validation process. Possible strategies to emergency plan modeling and representation are discussed, proposing a close relation with the actual workflow followed by the entities responsible for the plan's specification. The simulation model is mainly concerned with the location-based and location-motivated actions of the involved agents, describing the likely effects of a specific emergency situation response. The simulator architecture is further described, based on the correspondence between the representation of the plan, and the simulation model. This includes the involving characteristics of the simulation, the simulation engine, the description of the resulting data (for the later evaluation of the emergency plan) and a visualization and interaction component, enabling the dynamic introduction of changes in the scenario progression.

Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems - Proceedings

Abstract
This paper presents an interior design application that uses photos from real indoor spaces and rooms as input. The user is encouraged to take a picture of a certain place and virtually reshape it with furniture, different colors, textures and materials. The system analyses the still image of the physical space through image processing and computer vision algorithms to detect the world orientation relative to the camera. Knowing this, it is possible to create a natural interface where objects are laid on the floor and pushed around as in real life.

Abstract
This paper proposes a framework to support interaction with virtual objects integrated in a real life scenario. In the proposed interaction concept, the user can reshape or re-design a real space using virtual objects using several pictures of the desired space. The images are analyzed for known features such as surfaces, floor or room orientation. Using these elements, it is possible to devise an augmented reality system where the user can add virtual objects to the scenario that react to its content. These are magnetic objects because they attach itself to elements on the scene such as floor or walls. This approach liberates the user from moving objects in three-dimensional space. Instead they just push around objects in a more natural interface. The paper studies the impact of adding these magnetism effects in the interaction with an augmented reality-editing interface.

Abstract
In this paper we describe a visualization system for an emergency simulation. We start by presenting a flooding emergency case scenario and all the elements that are involved in it. Then we describe the design decisions that were made in order to create a credible representation of the scene. This includes using a game engine to render the scenario using a three-dimensional terrain, with objects and information retrieved from geographic information systems. Additionally we describe experiments with new touch and tangible devices that Support a war table like interaction with the simulation. We further describe Our ideas for the emergency interface and conclude describing the directions for future work.
