Hash-Chain-Based Authentication for IoT

ADCAIJ-ADVANCES IN DISTRIBUTED COMPUTING AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE JOURNAL

Abstract
The number of everyday interconnected devices continues to increase and constitute the Internet of Things (IoT). Things are small computers equipped with sensors and wireless communications capabilities that are driven by energy constraints, since they use batteries and may be required to operate over long periods of time. The majority of these devices perform data collection. The collected data is stored on-line using web-services that, sometimes, operate without any special considerations regarding security and privacy. The current work proposes a modified hash-chain authentication mechanism that, with the help of a smartphone, can authenticate each interaction of the devices with a REST web-service using One Time Passwords (OTP) while using open wireless networks. Moreover, the proposed authentication mechanism adheres to the stateless, HTTP-like behavior expected of REST web-services, even allowing the caching of server authentication replies within a predefined time window. No other known web-service authentication mechanism operates in such manner

Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing

Abstract
With the increase of the Information and Communication Technologies in all aspects and sectors of our life, a world of unprecedented scenarios is arising. Some of these scenarios are the explosions of new and different Healthcare projects that intend to decrease the economical and social costs of the real ageing population phenomenon, through the delocalization of healthcare services delivery and management to the home. These Ambient Assisted Living environments, which we have taken a step forward with the introduction of proactive techniques for better adapting to its users, usually elderly or chronic patients, are now entering a new phase: users with no special help needs also need to have a healthier Active Ageing. Since the direct correlation between physical activity and health is well established, we present here an idea to better achieve this goal. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

Abstract
The Internet of Things can be seen has a growing number of things that inter-operate using an Internet-based infrastructure and that has evolved during the last years with little concern for the privacy of its users, especially regarding how the collected data is stored. Technological measures ensuring users privacy must be established. In this paper we will present a technological framework for the secure storage of data. Things can then interact with the framework's API much in the same way they now interact with its current servers, after which, the framework will performthe required operations in order to secure the data before storing it. Themethods adopted for the secure storage will maintain the sharing ability, conveniently allowing authorized access to other users, the initial user's terms (e.g. data anonymity) and the ability to revoke assigned privileges at all times. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

TRENDS IN PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS OF AGENTS AND MULTIAGENT SYSTEMS

Abstract
The development of Intelligent Environments is a complex challenge. This complexity arises, in part, from the amount of different devices that need to be seamlessly integrated in a common and homogeneous environment, despite the fact of each device having its own characteristics. This heterogeneity of devices is particularly risky when one passes from the specification to the implementation phase, where all unexpected things start to happen. Multi-agent systems are the paradigm par excellence for implementing Intelligent Environments. However, traditionally, agents are only used at the implementation phase. In this paper we propose a new 3 step approach in which agents are used during all the development process, playing undoubtedly a much more preponderant role and making the path from the specification to the implementation a much easier and controllable one, always having in mind the challenges of the development of Intelligent Environments.

Abstract
It is understood that Collaborative Work plays an important role in today's organizations lift cycle. On the other hand, any decision that may involve a set of decision makers is, by itself, quite complex. It is under this umbrella that it will be presented the VirtualECare project, that contemplates art intelligent multi-agent system able to monitor, interact and serve its customers in need of (health)care services. We will center our attention oil the system group decision and argumentation modules, which use idea generation techniques and resort to argumentation to exchange and justify belief and choice. At the end, a prototype will be presented.
