THE HYPER EXPERT COLLABORATIVE AI ASSISTANT

Many important real-world challenges require making a sequence of decisions over time. Examples include planning routes, managing manufacturing processes, and supporting interactive machine learning systems. While artificial intelligence has shown great potential in these areas, its adoption is often limited by a lack of user trust. PEER addresses this challenge by placing people at the centre of the AI lifecycle. The project focuses on two key issues: helping users better understand AI systems through greater transparency, and enabling AI systems to better understand users by adapting to their needs, preferences, and feedback. To achieve this, PEER develops innovative methods that promote continuous, two-way communication between humans and AI. By creating stronger feedback loops, the project aims to foster collaboration, mutual learning, and shared decision-making between users and intelligent systems. As an interdisciplinary initiative combining artificial intelligence and social sciences, PEER will: - Engage end-users directly in the design and development of AI systems. - Develop novel AI planning methods that support conversation, collaboration, and feedback in sequential decision-making tasks. - Create an AI Acceptance Index to assess AI systems from a human-centred perspective. - Validate and demonstrate these innovations through multiple real-world use cases. By strengthening human-AI collaboration and making AI systems more transparent, adaptive, and user-focused, PEER aims to increase trust, acceptance, and the effective deployment of AI in complex decision-making environments.
