Abstract
Purpose - Humanity and all life depend on the natural environment of Planet Earth, and that environment is in acute crisis across land, sea and air. One of a set of commentaries on how service can address the UN's sustainable development goals (SDGs), the authors focus on environmental goals SDG 13 (climate action), SDG 14 (life below water) and SDG 15 (life on land). This paper aims to propose a conceptual framework that incorporates the natural environment into transformative services. Design/methodology/approach - The authors trace the evolution of service thinking about the natural environment, from a stewardship perspective of the environment as a set of resources to be managed, through an acknowledgement of nonhuman organisms as actors that can participate in service exchange, towards an emergent concept of ecosystems as integrating human social actors and other biological actors who engage fully in value co-creation. Findings - The authors derive a framework integrating human and other life forms as co-creating actors, drawing on shared natural resources to achieve mutualism, where each actor can have a net benefit from the relationship. Future research questions are posited that may help services research address SDGs 13-15. Originality/value - The framework integrates ideas from environmental ecosystem literature to inform the nature of ecosystems. By integrating environmental actors and ecological insights into the understanding of service ecosystems, service scholars are well placed to make unique contributions to the global challenge of creating a sustainable future.

Abstract
Among the seven key requirements to achieve trustworthy AI proposed by the High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence (AI-HLEG) established by the European Commission, the fifth requirement (“Diversity, non-discrimination and fairness”) declares: “In order to achieve Trustworthy AI, we must enable inclusion and diversity throughout the entire AI system’s life cycle. [...] This requirement is closely linked with the principle of fairness”. In this paper, we try to shed light on how closely these two distinct concepts, diversity and fairness, may be treated by focusing on information access systems and ranking literature. © 2023 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

Abstract
The decarbonisation of the building sector is crucial for Portugal's goal of achieving economy-wide carbon neutrality by 2050. To mobilize communities towards energy efficiency measures, it is important to understand the primary drivers and barriers that must be overcome through policymaking. This paper aims to review existing Energy Policies and Actions (EPA) in Portugal and assess their effectiveness in improving Energy Efficiency (EE) and reducing CO2 emissions in the building sector. The Local Energy Planning Assistant (LEPA) tool was used to model, test, validate and compare the implementation of current and alternative EPAs in the North of Portugal, including the national EE plan. The results indicate that electrification of heating and cooling, EE measures, and the proliferation of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) are crucial for achieving climate neutrality. The study found that the modelling of alternative EPAs can be improved to reduce investment costs and increase Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions reduction. Among the alternatives assessed, the proposed one (Alternative 4) presents the best returns on investment in terms of cost savings and emissions reduction. It allows for 52% investment cost savings in the residential sector and 13% in the service sector when compared to the current national roadmap to carbon neutrality (Alternative 2). The estimated emission reduction in 2050 for Alternative 4 is 0.64% for the residential sector and 3.2% for the service sector when compared to Alternative 2.

Abstract
This paper describes the shared task on Automatic Classification of Literary Epochs (CoLiE) held as a part of the 1st International Workshop on Implicit Author Characterization from Texts for Search and Retrieval (IACT’23) held at SIGIR 2023. The competition aimed to enhance the capabilities of large-scale analysis and cross-comparative studies of literary texts by automating their classification into the respective epochs. We believe that the competition contributed to the field of information retrieval by exposing the first large benchmark dataset and the first study’s results with various methods applied to this dataset. This paper presents the details of the contest, the dataset used, the evaluation procedure, and an overview of participating methods. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors.
