Abstract
Training in VR can reduce risks and costs while allowing frequent and diversified experiential learning activities. We present a novel VR immersive authoring tool for experiential learning courses with industrial machinery. A trainer can create a course from scratch, defining all its components (structure, models, tools, and settings). The actions which trainees should perform can be specified by demonstration. After completing the course, trainees' actions will be matched against the trainer's.

Abstract
In this article we present Akson, a web-based audiovisual (AV) environment for networked interaction and performance. As a result of research in the context of Braga Media Arts, part of UNESCO's creative cities network (UCCN), is documented why it was developed, its characteristics as a software that promotes networked artistic practice, as well as the tests performed. Taking advantage of the Internet's infrastructure, Akson allows the exploration of hundreds of devices scattered around the world and the study of the interface as an extension of the human gesture.

Abstract
Reinforced concrete structures are an essential part of our modern society, and monitoring their structural health is of paramount importance. Early detection of decay allows for the reduction of repair costs and, more importantly, the prevention of catastrophic failure. For this purpose, a single fiber reflectance spectrometer was embedded in cement paste samples for the monitoring of water at the fiber tip through its sensitivity to changes in the refractive index. It monitored the curing of samples with different water-to-cement ratios (w/c), between 0.45 and 0.60, measuring the water exhaust during the hardening of the cement paste. It also measured the capillary coefficient from cement paste samples of 0.50, 0.55 and 0.60 w/c: 0.668 & PLUSMN; 0.002 mm/& RADIC;h, 1.771 & PLUSMN; 0.052 mm/& RADIC;h and 6.360 & PLUSMN; 0.269 mm/& RADIC;h, respectively. The capillary coefficient values agree with gravimetric measurements of sorptivity and are further confirmed through porosity measurements made with a scanning electron microscope. Thus, single fiber reflectance spectroscopy can be a gateway to inexpensively measure the entire life cycle of cement, from its curing until its eventual decay, assessing, in situ, its durability through the capillary coefficient.

Abstract
In the early days of the world wide web, browsers were developed to navigate through (static) HTML web page documents. This has changed dramatically, and nowadays web pages are dynamic, expressed by programs written in regular programming languages. As a result, browsers are almost operating systems, having to interpret/compile such programs and execute them within the browser itself. Currently, while JavaScript is the main de facto language to express web pages, it does have various short comings and performance inefficiencies. WebAssembly, a new portable and size/load efficient alternative developed by major IT powerhouses, is seen as the future substitute. As WebAssembly aims to be more performance efficient than JavaScript, we aim to look at this current status and present a preliminary study on the performance of these two, based on their runtime and energy efficiency. Preliminary results show that WebAssembly, while still in its infancy, is starting to already challenge JavaScript, with much more room to grow. Additionally, our benchmarking framework is also made available to allow further research and replication.

Abstract
The conflicting issues of growing demand for electrical energy versus the environmental concerns have left the energy industries practically with one choice: to turn into renewable energies. This duality has also highlighted the role of power transmission systems as energy delivery links in two ways, considering the increased demand of load centers, and the integration of large-scale renewable generation units connected to the transmission system such as wind power generation. Accordingly, it has become even more vital to provide reliable protection for the power transmission links. The present protection methods are associated with deficiencies e.g., acting based on a predefined threshold, low speed, and the requirement of costly devices. A two-stage data-driven-based methodology has been introduced in this paper to deal with such defects, considering wind power generation. The proposed approach utilizes a powerful feature extraction technique, namely the t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding (t-SNE) in the first stage. In the second stage, the extracted features are fed to a robust soft learning vector quantization (RSLVQ) classifier to detect and locate transmission line faults. The WSCC 9-bus system is used to evaluate the performance of the proposed data-driven method during various system operating conditions. The obtained results verify the promising capability of the proposed approach in detecting and locating transmission line faults.

Abstract
Tourism is a socio-cultural phenomenon that has intensified with technological development and with the advancement of communication and transport systems. However, the increase in the number of people moving around the world does not necessarily represent success or tourist access, but it can mostly serve more immediate marketing interests. Since tourism is considered a phenomenon, the sociological interest to study it arises. Tourist practice is an educational process, a learning process, which is established through the relationship between visitors and residents and their cultural backgrounds. Several authors dedicate their studies to this field, and several are also those who try to understand the relations between tourists and the residents in the host region. The purpose of this work is to review the scientific literature that is focused on the sociology of tourism as a subject to study the economic, social, and environmental impacts of tourism on societies and residents and how residents perceived the benefits and costs of tourism developments in the local community. Review of literature suggests that interactions between visitors and the host community can lead to short and long term positive and negative social-cultural, economic and environmental impacts on destinations.
