Description

Holistic UGV-based Resilient and Real-time Intelligence for Crisis And Natural Emergency

Severe weather is becoming more frequent, with incidents quintupling over the last 50 years. These events have caused over 100 000 deaths and EUR 1.5 trillion in damages across Europe. First responders often face dangerous situations when managing disasters. There is an urgent need for better tools to keep them safe and improve their efficiency. The EU-funded HURRICANE project is using robotics to transform disaster response. It combines ground and aerial robots with smart technologies like real-time data sharing, laser-based charging, and advanced communication systems. Tests in the Alps, Andalusia, and Corsica aim to demonstrate how these tools could reduce response times by 60 %. By 2035, the training of 10 000 responders across Europe is expected.
