Abstract
We present DIGItal sTeps (DIGIT), a system for assisting in the creation of footstep sounds in a post-production foley context—a practice that recreates all diegetic sounds for a moving image. The novelty behind DIGIT is the use of the acoustic (haptic) response of a gesture on a tangible interface as means for navigating and retrieving similar matches from a large database of annotated footstep sounds. While capturing the tactile expressiveness of the traditional sound foley practice in the exploration of physical objects, DIGIT streamlines the workflow of the audio post production environment for film or games by reducing its costly and time-consuming requirements. © 2018, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Abstract
This article focuses on technology-based companies and the way they perceive the influence of cultural and social differences on their internationalization process. As national cultures and institutions differ from country to country and even more so between different continents, we herein discuss the adaptation of products and services to the cultures and institutions of each environment, for the optimization of sales and product positioning. An in-depth example of a platform that is for sale in different countries, including Portugal and Mozambique, was described. In addition, results from interviews and a questionnaire administered to Portuguese internationalized companies were analyzed. A review of the existing literature was also performed. The strategic notion of positioning is central to organizational success and should differ from context to context, where necessary. Namely, different economic and education conditions lead to distinct behaviors, which have a repercussion on the position to be adopted in order to sell products abroad.

PROCEEDINGS OF THE 3RD INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE OF CONSISTENCY FOR DISTRIBUTED DATA (PAPOC 17)

Abstract
Conflict-free Replicated Data Types (CRDTs) are data abstractions (registers, counters, sets, maps, among others) that provide a relaxed consistency model called Eventual Consistency. Current designs for CRDT counters do not scale, having a size linear with the number of both active and retired nodes (i.e., nodes that leave the system permanently after previously manipulating the value of the counter). In this paper we present a new counter design called Borrow-Counter, that provides a mechanism for the retirement of transient nodes, keeping the size of the counter linear with the number of active nodes.

2017 25TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON OPTICAL FIBER SENSORS (OFS)

Abstract
A study of long period fiber gratings (LPFG) over coated with iron (Fe) and subjected to oxidation in water with different sodium chloride (NaCl) concentrations is presented. The formation of iron oxides and hydroxides was monitored in real time by following the features of the LPFG attenuation band. Preliminary results show that Fe coated LPFGs can be used as sensors for early warning of corrosion in offshore and in coastal projects where metal structures made of iron alloys are in contact with sea or brackish water.
