Abstract
Quality of Service (QoS) is an important enabler for communication in industrial environments. The Arrowhead Framework was created to support local cloud functionalities for automation applications by means of a Service Oriented Architecture. To this aim, the framework offers a number of services that ease application development, among them the QoSSetup and the Monitor services, the first used to verify and configure QoS in the local cloud, and the second for online monitoring of QoS. This paper describes how the QoSSetup and Monitor services are provided in a Arrowhead-compliant System of Systems, detailing both the principles and algorithms employed, and how the services are implemented. Experimental results are provided, from a demonstrator built over a real-time Ethernet network.

Publication
U.Porto Journal of Engineering

Abstract
The DC/DC boost converter is described as a time variant system. State-Space is one of the methods used to approach a time variant system to an invariant time linear system. The present document focuses on a comparative approach of output voltage regulation and system stability and performance. For this document, there were made MatLab tests of PI and PD controllers, with and without fuzzy control.

Abstract
Social networks can often be considered the main stage of news, so detecting newsworthy information in this media is a relevant subject of study. Labeling automatically messages shared in social networks is an area of study that can be used directly to detect newsworthy information or to serve as training data for other projects. The solution presented in this work is to use the news as the base knowledge for the classification of messages. The results of this application were promising, with an accuracy of over 90% in detecting news related messages in our datasets. © 2017 IEEE.

Abstract
The application of technologies for the improvement of voltage stability, particularly during contingencies is a major concern in the field of power networks operation and control. In this paper it is studied the FACTS performance in the dynamic voltage stability of an electric power system. It was considered the influence of two FACTS controllers in parallel or shunt connection, the Static VAR Compensators (SVC) and the Static Synchronous Compensators (STATCOM) in the dynamic voltage stability during a disturbance of the BPA test power network. The models of SVC and STATCOM were developed in EUROSTAG. The Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVR) of the generating units and the turbine speed governors were modelled in detail. Different load models were used and the Under Load Tap Changers (ULTC) were also taken into account. Finally, some conclusions that provide a better understanding of the dynamic voltage stability using FACTS devices during a disturbance are pointed out.

Abstract
The mitral valve plays a vital role in our circulatory system. To study its functionality, it is important to measure clinically relevant parameters, such as its thickness, mobility and shape. Since manual segmentation is impractical, time consuming and requires expert knowledge, an automatic segmentation tool can have a significant clinical impact, providing objective measures to clinicians for understanding the morphology and behaviour of the mitral valve. In this work, a real time tracking method has been proposed for ultrasound videos obtained with the Parasternal Long Axis view. The algorithm is semi-automatic, assumes manual Anterior Mitral Leaflet segmentation in the first frame and then it uses mathematical morphology algorithms to obtain tracking results, further refined by localized active contours during the whole cardiac cycle. Finally, the medial axis is extracted for a quantitative analysis. Results show that the algorithm can segment 1137 frames extracted from 9 fully annotated sequences of the real clinical video data in only 0.89 sec/frame, with an average error of 5 pixels. Furthermore, the algorithms exhibited robust tracking performance in the most difficult situations, which are large frame-to-frame displacements.

Abstract
A sensor based on Fabry-Perot interferometry with a hollow microsphere cavity embedded in a 3D printed structure is proposed. The sensor was tested for lateral loading and temperature, showing promising results. By imprintring the sensor on the structure, the dynamic range of application is severely increased enabling the application of the sensor in harsh environments.
