New product development-processes in the fashion industry: Evidence from Indonesian Islamic fashion companies

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is, first, to examine the design requirements of Islamic fashion in the new product-development process; second, to explore the different practices of new product-development activities from successful and unsuccessful new product lines; and third, to investigate the sequence of the new product-development practice in the fashion industry, specifically the Islamic fashion industry in Indonesia. Design/methodology/approach: Questionnaires were distributed and semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect information regarding the practice of the new product-development activities. The Mann–Whitney U test was performed based on the quality of the new product-development activities of 100 Islamic fashion firms, including five innovative companies that had won several awards in Indonesia. An analysis of the extent to which fashion firms were engaging in new product-development activities provided a more detailed picture of the sequence of those activities. Findings: Islamic norms were adapted during the early design and promotional phases of new product development in Islamic fashion. Various choices of design and colour in Islamic fashion were also perceived as a way of preaching to women to dress more accordingly to the Islamic norm. The new product-development activities that were conducted differently for successful vs unsuccessful new product lines were idea conceptualisation, market analysis, technical and engineering analysis, financial analysis and commercialisation. The commercialisation phase was given the least priority of all the activities. Nevertheless, it contributed to the very first communication to the customers about new product lines. Originality/value: This study makes an important contribution to the deeper and more detailed research on how Islamic fashion companies perceive Islamic values during new product developments and how they perform new product-development activities between successful and unsuccessful products.

Impact of future energy policy on water resources in Kazakhstan

Abstract
As part of its strategic economic and social plan, Kazakhstan has a target of increasing the share of renewables and alternative energy sources in power generation to 50% by 2050. This greatly contrasts with the current situation, where around 90% of electricity is produced from fossil fuels. To achieve the target, the introduction of between 600 and 2000 MW of nuclear power is expected by 2030. This would impact water resources, already under stress due to significant losses, heavy reliance on irrigation for agriculture, unevenly distributed surface water, variations in transboundary inflows, amongst others. This study presents an integrated analysis of the water-energy systems in Kazakhstan, to investigate the water resource availability to support such energy system transition.

WARPING DEIXIS: Distorting Gestures to Enhance Collaboration

Abstract
When engaged in communication, people often rely on pointing gestures to refer to out-of-reach content. However, observers frequently misinterpret the target of a pointing gesture. Previous research suggests that to perform a pointing gesture, people place the index finger on or close to a line connecting the eye to the referent, while observers interpret pointing gestures by extrapolating the referent using a vector defined by the arm and index finger. In this paper we present Warping Deixis, a novel approach to improving the perception of pointing gestures and facilitate communication in collaborative Extended Reality environments. By warping the virtual representation of the pointing individual, we are able to match the pointing expression to the observer's perception. We evaluated our approach in a co-located side by side virtual reality scenario. Results suggest that our approach is effective in improving the interpretation of pointing gestures in shared virtual environments.

Distributed energy resource and network expansion planning of a CCHP based active microgrid considering demand response programs

Abstract
This paper addresses the network expansion planning of an active microgrid that utilizes Distributed Energy Resources (DERs). The microgrid uses Combined Cooling, Heating and Power (CCHP) systems with their heating and cooling network. The proposed method uses a bi-level iterative optimization algorithm for optimal expansion and operational planning of the microgrid that consists of different zones, and each zone can transact electricity with the upward utility. The transaction of electricity with the upward utility can be performed based on demand response programs that consist of the time-of-use program and/or direct load control. DERs are CHPs, small wind turbines, photovoltaic systems, electric and cooling storage, gas fired boilers and absorption and compression chillers are used to supply different zones' electrical, heating, and cooling loads. The proposed model minimizes the system's investment, operation, interruption and environmental costs; meanwhile, it maximizes electricity export revenues and the reliability of the system. The proposed method is applied to a real building complex and five different scenarios are considered to evaluate the impact of different energy supply configurations and operational paradigm on the investment and operational costs. The effectiveness of the introduced algorithm has been assessed. The implementation of the proposed algorithm reduces the aggregated investment and operational costs of the test system in about 54.7% with respect to the custom expansion planning method.

A new interior point solver with generalized correntropy for multiple gross error suppression in state estimation

Abstract
This paper provides an answer to the problem of State Estimation (SE) with multiple simultaneous gross errors, based on Generalized Error Correntropy instead of Least Squares and on an interior point method algorithm instead of the conventional Gauss-Newton algorithm. The paper describes the mathematical model behind the new SE cost function and the construction of a suitable solver and presents illustrative numerical cases. The performance of SE with the data set contaminated with up to five simultaneous gross errors is assessed with confusion matrices, identifying false and missed detections. The superiority of the new method over the classical Largest Normalized Residual Test is confirmed at a 99% confidence level in a battery of tests. Its ability to address cases where gross errors fall on critical measurements, critical sets or leverage points is also confirmed at the same level of confidence.

Abstract
The present demographic trends point to an increase in aged population and chronic diseases which symptoms can be alleviated through rehabilitation. The applicability of passive 3D reconstruction for motion tracking in a rehabilitation context was explored using a stereo camera. The camera was used to acquire depth and color information from which the 3D position of predefined joints was recovered based on: kinematic relationships, anthropometrically feasible lengths and temporal consistency. Finally, a set of quantitative measures were extracted to evaluate the performed rehabilitation exercises. Validation study using data provided by a marker based as ground-truth revealed that our proposal achieved errors within the range of state-of-the-art active markerless systems and visual evaluations done by physical therapists. The obtained results are promising and demonstrate that the developed methodology allows the analysis of human motion for a rehabilitation purpose.
