Research Infrastructures for the Future of Ukraine: Roadmap for Sustained Growth and Recovery

Ukraine’s research and innovation (R&I) landscape has faced challenges since the collapse of the Soviet Union, and lately largely due to the ongoing Russian aggression. However, the country’s EU candidate status and the launch of accession negotiations in July 2024 sparked renewed efforts to integrate more fully into the European Research Area. The EU-funded RIFF project aims to strengthen Ukraine’s R&I system by developing a Ukrainian Roadmap of Research Infrastructures. This process of putting together the roadmap will use a dual approach: a bottom-up strategy involving an open call for proposals and training through a network of multiple Ukrainian partners; and a top-down strategy based on relevant government policies.
