About
João Claro is Chairman and CEO of INESC TEC, and Full Professor of Industrial Engineering and Management at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). He is also President of the Academic Council of Porto Business School (PBS). His work focuses on the field of technology management and policy.
He is Scientific Director of the UT Austin Portugal Programme and has worked closely with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), notably as National Director of the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Programme (2013–2017), visiting researcher at MIT (2008), and coordinator of joint research and education projects. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the TTO Circle, the European Centre on Technology Transfer Offices Circle. He served as a member (2020-2023) of the Board of the European Association of Research and Technology Organisations (EARTO).
João Claro holds a PhD and a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from FEUP, and a Master’s degree in Quantitative Methods in Management from PBS. Before returning to the University, he worked as a software engineer and systems project manager at the EDP Group.
