Abstract
The creative transition from understanding the customer experience to defining the service
solution, from current situation to preferred future, is central to Service Design. However, the
incorporation of customer experience factors can change along the different iterative cycles of
service design. To address this challenge, this paper presents the results of a study of how the
path of customer experience was followed, studied and incorporated along a mobile service
development. Three iterative Service Design cycles enabled a holistic vision of the service and
raised ‘customer experience’ awareness on the development team. Following a design research
approach, experience factors were actively taken into account and incorporated along ideation
and implementations cycles involving a total of 61 interviews. The research work contributes to
Service Design by providing a global vision of the experiential changes, especially in mobile and
technology based services. It describes the reframed situations working with experiences at each
cycle of design, and making use of service design tools and methods at each moment.

Abstract
This work presented a demonstration of the potential for a fiber based cavity ring-down (CRD) using an optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR). The OTDR was used to send the impulses down into about 20 km of a standard single optical fiber, at the end of which the fiber cavity ring-down was placed. The OTDR measured no appreciable losses, so other CRDs multiplexed could be spliced in parallel along the same optical fiber. To demonstrate the behavior and sensitivity of the proposed configuration, a displacement sensor based on a fiber taper with a diameter of 50 µm was placed inside the fiber loop, and the induced losses were measured on the CRD signal — a sensitivity of 11.8 ± 0.5 µs/mm was achieved. The dynamic range of the sensing head used in this configuration was about 2 mm. Finally, this work was also compared with different works published in the literature. © 2014, The Author(s).

Abstract
The Web is rapidly becoming the prime medium for human socialization. As it evolves towards an information-centric operation, it records everything and forgets nothing, assuming that every online resource disclosed by people (photos, posts, multimedia files, etc.) is permanently valid and is to be stored forever. However, throughout their lives, people tend to change, both in their habits as well as in their views and opinions. In many situations, as the years go by, information released loses relevance or people may decide they no longer want others to access information they have previously published. The work presented in this paper strives for a new information persistence paradigm, whereby the enforcement of "digital forgetting" is implemented over an information-centric model for the Internet. The defined solution enables the definitive elimination of digital objects, either on-demand or on a pre-scheduled basis, and, hence, their "forgetting." The solution, conceived within the framework of the European project CONVERGENCE, is based on the employment of metadata descriptions about resources, which unambiguously identify their rightful owners. This additional data is efficiently bound to the resource through the use of an extended version of the MPEG-21 Digital Item specification, and its prescriptions are enforced by CONVERGENCE's distributed provisions.

Abstract
The general adoption of mobile devices and its wide network coverage made it possible to make emergency calls virtually everywhere, even in the absence of a valid contact. However, there is still generally the need for audio connection. This restriction is a problem for deaf people, but also for the elderly and people without disabilities who face sudden situations where speech is hard to articulate. In this context, this paper presents SOSPhone, a prototype of a mobile application that was developed to enable users to make emergency calls using an iconographic touch interface running in a touchscreen mobile device. The prototype implements the client-side of the application and was demonstrated and evaluated by a large number of users, including people without any disability, emergency services' professionals and deaf people. This paper describes the SOSPhone prototype and presents the results of the interface evaluation process, which is important to validate the main client-side interaction and architectural principles in order to proceed with the integration with each specific national emergency services' platform.
