Proceedings of the International Conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression

Abstract
Audio content-based processing has become a pervasive methodology for techno-fluent musicians. System architectures typically create thumbnail audio descriptions, based on signal processing methods, to visualize, retrieve and transform musical audio efficiently. Towards enhanced usability of these descriptor-based frameworks for the music community, the paper advances a minimal content-based audio description scheme, rooted on primary musical notation attributes at the threefold sound object, meso and macro hierarchies. Multiple perceptually-guided viewpoints from rhythmic, harmonic, timbral and dynamic attributes define a discrete and finite alphabet with minimal formal and subjective assumptions using unsupervised and user-guided methods. The Factor Oracle automaton is then adopted to model and visualize temporal morphology. The generative musical applications enabled by the descriptor-based framework at multiple structural hierarchies are discussed. © 2020, Steering Committee of the International Conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression. EUROPEAN COUNTRYSIDE

Abstract
Based on an exploratory research, this study highlights the role of pure rural entrepreneurship towards rural development of an inland and mountainous area of Portugal-Montemuro. Thanks to the Institute of Cultural Affairs and the energy of the rural communities, some people of the rural area have been stimulated thirty years ago to develop endogenous, entrepreneurial and innovative initiatives in the countryside. The benefits of all these rural entrepreneurial and endogenous initiatives are visible nowadays. Some villages of the rural area have more people, socio-economic dynamics were revitalized, and some job opportunities were created. Therefore, in a context of depopulation and crisis of peripheral and interior areas, our study demonstrates that rural entrepreneurship and innovation based on endogenous resources are key for the welfare of the rural society.

Implications of Mobility as a Service (MaaS) in Urban and Rural Environments - Practice, Progress, and Proficiency in Sustainability

Abstract
The environmental concerns together with social inclusion issues and the need to promote economic equity in the society have profound implications regarding the sustainable mobility concept. This allied to a technological (r)evolution leads to the path of the internet of mobility (IoM). On the other hand, we are witnessing the prosperity of mobility associated with services, mobility as a service (MaaS), which also aims at the integration of different transport modes. Linking together IoM and MaaS, the internet of mobility as a service (IoMaaS) concept is introduced, which can learn from the end user experiences and behaviors, enabling the reduction of ease of use and sustainable mobility, while supporting a much-needed cultural shift regarding mobility habits.

42ND ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES OF THE IEEE ENGINEERING IN MEDICINE AND BIOLOGY SOCIETY: ENABLING INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES FOR GLOBAL HEALTHCARE EMBC'20

Abstract
The teaching process of auscultation is complex in itself, and difficult to operate since it requires a wide spectrum of patients with the most diverse cardiopulmonary pathologies, readily available during teaching and assessment hours, for an ever-growing number of medical students. In this paper we will focus on how virtual patient technologies can promote the evolution of the current teaching methodologies, promoting better learning. The chosen methodology was: a) a review of available medical simulation technologies for auscultation teaching; b) a case study illustrating how a virtual patient simulation technology has been successfully used to teach and certify auscultation skills. Results show the positive impact and high acceptability of virtual patient simulation technologies in the teaching of auscultation to medical students.

ELECTRIC POWER SYSTEMS RESEARCH

Abstract
This paper presents a new and promising strategy organized in two stages to solve the dynamic multiyear transmission expansion planning, TEP, problem. Specifically, the first stage is related to the reduction of the search space size and it is conducted by a novel constructive heuristic algorithm (CHA). The second one is responsible for the refinement of the optimal solution plan and it uses a novel evolutionary algorithm based on the best features of particle swarm optimization (PSO) and genetic algorithm (GA). The planning problem is modelled as a dynamic and multiyear approach to ensure that it keeps a holistic view over the entire planning horizon and it aims at minimizing the total system costs comprising the investment and operation costs. Additionally, the N-1 contingency criterion is also considered in the problem. The developed approach was tested using the IEEE 118-Bus test system and the obtained results demonstrate its advantages in terms of efficiency and required computational time. Furthermore, the results demonstrated that the novel strategy can enable the utilization of the AC optimal power flow (OPF) in a faster and reliable way when compared to the standard and widespread DC-OPF model.

PROCEEDINGS OF THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF APPLIED BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT (ICABM2020)

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to present the results of a research on the importance of Employer Branding (EB) for corporate brand success in the context of small and medium businesses (SME), from the perspective of the employees compared to the founders, considering a set of stable variables. This is an ongoing process through which company employees want to understand "who" and "what" is behind the brand's value proposition. Methodology: A qualitative methodology was used based on interviews with open questions in an exploratory case study, to gather as much information as possible and without constraints. This was properly supported by a literature review, from published works, academic works, as well as papers on employer branding. This approach is part of the scientific paradigm of realism, also known as critical realism, and is therefore an appropriate method in marketing and management research. Findings: The findings of this research demonstrate that EB seems not to be contributing for a successful corporate brand in the SME context. For that purpose, a medium-and long-term marketing and communication plan is needed, particularly regarding a brand plan, duly defined and implemented. The mere market/sector leadership cannot be viewed as a source in the long run for SME. If no one believes or bets on brand equity appreciation, EB won't certainly be potentiated. In this way, there is a risk that this type of organizations would become weak entities with no sense of belonging. Originality/value: Because there is a lack of applied scientific research on this topic in the context of SME, the aim was to understand EB from a specific case study, enabling the acquisition of knowledge on how this concept works and is applied (or not) in practice. Practical implications: This research aimed at contributing to a better strategic alignment of EB, from the institutional level to the operational level, passing through the intermediate level, in SME. It appears that the managers/administrators/directors in SME don't have a holistic perspective of the brand. It also emphasizes the great importance of employees in building the brand in this particular context. Research limitations: This investigation needed a deeper market analysis, namely of direct competitors. It was not possible to obtain enough information to carry out a more reliable analysis. It would be very interesting to understand what led some collaborators to leave the studied company and move to its direct competitors, as well as to realize what makes others leave the competitors or return to the company.
