Abstract
In spite of the increasing attention being paid to short food supply chains (SFSCs), research in the area is still scarce, particularly in Portugal. Thus, based on a case study in Viseu Dao Lathes Region (VDLR), we intend to identify and discuss (emphasizing potentialities and constraints) the movement of SFSCs in the region. This case study is based on document analysis and interviews with agrifood baskets' promotors. On the one hand, the results show the wide variety of SFSCs that exist in the region and the emergence of new forms of SFSCs like the agrifood baskets. On the other hand, the empirical research also emphasizes the environmental, economic, and sociocultural benefits of SFSCs that will have a positive impact on the well-being of producers, consumers, and/or on the whole region. However, the interviews have also exposed a (certain) limitation in terms of communication and marketing that may constraint these initiatives. From a practical point of view, it became clear that producers must do their best to develop their communication and marketing strategies; from a political point of view, local authorities should provide the necessary assistance to help implement training programmes and develop suitable communication and marketing skills.

Abstract
Localisation is a critical problem in ground mobile robots. For dead reckoning, odometry is usually used. A disadvantage of using it alone is unbounded error accumulation. So, odometry calibration is critical in reducing error propagation. This paper presents an analysis of the developments and advances of systematic methods for odometry calibration. Four steering geometries were analysed, namely differential drive, Ackerman, tricycle and omnidirectional. It highlights the advances made on this field and covers the methods since UMBmark was proposed. The points of analysis are the techniques and test paths used, errors considered in calibration, and experiments made to validate each method. It was obtained fifteen methods for differential drive, three for Ackerman, two for tricycle, and three for the omnidirectional steering geometry. A disparity was noted, compared with the real utilisation, between the number of published works addressing differential drive and tricycle/Ackerman. Still, odometry continues evolving since UMBmark was proposed.

Abstract
Lock-free implementation techniques are known to improve the overall throughput of concurrent data structures. A hash map is an important data structure used to organize information that must be accessed frequently. A key role of a hash map is the ability to balance workloads by dynamically adjusting its internal data structures in order to provide the fastest possible access to the information. This work extends a previous lock-free hash map design to also support lock-free compression. The main goal is to significantly reduce the depth of the internal hash levels within the hash map, in order to minimize cache misses and increase the overall throughput. To materialize our design, we redesigned the existent search, insert, remove and expand operations in order to maintain the lock-freedom property of the whole design. Experimental results show that lock-free compression effectively improves the search operation and, in doing so, it outperforms the previous design, which was already quite competitive when compared against the concurrent hash map design supported by Intel.

ELECTRIC POWER SYSTEMS RESEARCH
Abstract
This paper presents two innovative Fault-Ride-Through (FRT) strategies suited for Smart-Transformers (ST) supplying hybrid AC/DC distribution grids within a microgrid environment. The first strategy is suited for ST without a local energy storage, where its Medium Voltage (MV) inverter is operated in grid-tied mode. The proposed approach relies on the voltage sensitivity of resources connected to the ST fed distribution networks aiming to limit the MV inverter current. The second strategy is suited for ST incorporating local energy storage and operating its MV inverter in grid-forming mode, thus enabling islanding operation of a MV grid section. The proposed FRT strategy aims to regulate ST's output voltage by calculating the maximum voltage drop in the coupling filter in order to control the output current. The proposed strategies are evaluated exploiting appropriated simulation models and extensive operating conditions.

Abstract
Optical networks-on-chip (ONoCs) are a promising solution for high-performance multicore integration with better latency and bandwidth than traditional electrical NoCs. Wavelength-routed ONoCs (WRONoCs) offer yet additional performance guarantees. However, WRONoC design presents new EDA challenges which have not yet been fully addressed. So far, most topology analysis is abstract, i.e., overlooks layout concerns, while for layout the tools available perform place and route (P&R) but no topology optimization. Thus, a need arises for a novel optimization method combining both aspects of WRONoC design. In this article, such a method, PSION+, is laid out. This new procedure uses a linear programming model to optimize a WRONoC physical layout template to optimality. This template-based optimization scheme is a new idea in this area that seeks to minimize problem complexity while keeping design flexibility. A simple layout template format is introduced and explored. Finally, multiple model reduction techniques to reduce solver run-time are also presented and tested. When compared to the state-of-the-art design procedure, results show a decrease in maximum optical insertion loss of 41%.
