DISTRIBUTED COMPUTING AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, SPECIAL SESSIONS II, 21ST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

Abstract
Traditional approaches in the competitive recruitment landscape frequently encounter difficulties in effectively identifying exceptional applicants, resulting in delays, increased expenses, and biases. This study proposes the utilisation of contemporary technologies such as Large Language Models (LLMs) and chatbots to automate the process of resume screening, thereby diminishing prejudices and enhancing communication between recruiters and candidates. Algorithms based on LLM can greatly transform the process of screening by improving both its speed and accuracy. By integrating chatbots, it becomes possible to have personalised interactions with candidates and streamline the process of scheduling interviews. This strategy accelerates the hiring process while maintaining principles of justice and ethics. Its objective is to improve algorithms and procedures to meet changing requirements and enhance the competitive advantage of talent acquisition within organisations.

iMOOC : building a platform from existing software components

Abstract
iMOOC is a new pedagogical model for massive open online courses (Teixeira & Mota, 2013), that evolved from UAb’s online model (Pereira et al., 2008), based on its four pillars of student-centered learning, interaction, flexibility and digital inclusion. It is also a software platform, that supports this model, and that was developed at UAb in close articulation with the pedagogical model. In this paper we describe the guidelines that oriented such development, and argue in favor of the use (or re-use) of well-established and robust software components for this purpose, as opposed to building platforms from scratch. The emergence of MOOCs as open courses, where participants have free access to the course, created new challenges in a closed, formatted LMS landscape. This led to the development of whole new environments that addressed those requirements (edX, Coursera). The iMOOC approach, however, was to build a platform from existing open source software components using an integration of Moodle (https://moodle.org/), which was previously adapted to UAb’s pedagogical model (Rocio & Coelho, 2009), and Elgg (http://elgg.org/), combining the advantages of both formal and informal learning modes, and addressing the pedagogical requirements in a cost-effective way. The integration was achieved using the IMS specification for LTI (learning tools interoperability) (Severance, 2010). As a result, the iMOOC platform has been successfully used both in stand-alone projects, and also in the european ECO project, where the effort to turn it project-compliant was relatively simple, due to the adoption of well-established protocols.

3º Encontro sobre Jogos e Mobile Learning

Abstract

1st Workshop on Gamification and Games for Learning (GamiLearn’17)

Abstract
The article describes the Impact of using Gamification Elements like Badges, Status Bar and a Rating System on the Interaction, Collaboration, Cooperation and the Presences of the Community of Inquiry Framework, inside an Academic Social Platform. We used a Design Base Research Methodology with Mixed Methods. We started by collecting opinions of users using semistructured interviews. The results from coding, informed on the construction of a gamified prototype, made with Elgg. Then Usability tests were conducted and the data helped refine the subsequent implementation. A Survey was deployed, Observations were made, and we gathered some Analytics. Results are presented congruent to the iterations and discussed. Some indications for the use of Badges and the implementation of Gamification are considered.
