Aurora vs muse: A portability study of two or-parallel prolog systems

Abstract
Prolog programs have explicit parallelism, that is, parallelism which can be exploited by a machine with minimal user effort. Or-parallelism is one such form of parallelism, and is particularly useful in that it is present in the many Prolog applications where several alternatives need to be considered. Or-parallelism has been exploited successfully in several systems, and especially in the Aurora and Muse systems. In this paper we analyze the portability of these two parallel systems onto a commercial shared memory parallel computer, a Sun SPARCcenter 2000 with 8 processors, running the Solaris 2.2 Operating System. We also analyze both systems' performance for classical benchmark programs and for two large Prolog applications.

DAOS - Scalable And-Or parallelism

Abstract
This paper presents DAOS, a model for exploitation of Andand Or-parallelism in logic programs. DAOS assumes a physically distributed memory environment and a logically shared address space. Exploiting both major forms of implicit parallelism should serve a broadest range of applications. Besides, a model that uses a distributed memory environment provides scalability and can be implemented over a computer network. However, distributed implementations of logic programs have to deal with communication overhead and inherent complexity of distributed memory managent. DAOS overcomes those problems through the use of a distributed shared memory layer to provide single-writer, multiple-readers sharing for the main execution stacks combined with explicit message passing for work distribution and management.

Abstract
One of the advantages of logic programming in the fact that it offers many sources of implicit parallelism, such as and-parallelism and or-parallelism Recently, research has been concentrated on integrating the different forms of parallelism into a single combined system. In this work we concentrate on the problem of integrating or-parallelism and independent and-parallelism for parallel Prolog systems. We contend that previous data structures require pure recomputation and therefore do not allow for orthogonality between and parallelism and or-parallelism. In contrast, we submit that a simpler solution, the sparse binding array, does guarantee this goal, and explain in detail how independent and-parallelism and or-parallelism can thus be efficiently combined.

Deterministic or probabilistic?- A survey on Byzantine fault tolerant state machine replication

Abstract
Byzantine Fault tolerant (BFT) protocols are implemented to guarantee the correct system/application behavior even in the presence of arbitrary faults (i.e., Byzantine faults). Byzantine Fault tolerant State Machine Replication (BFT-SMR) is a known software solution for masking arbitrary faults and malicious attacks (Liu et al., 2020). In this survey, we present and discuss relevant BFT-SMR protocols, focusing on deterministic and probabilistic approaches. The main purpose of this paper is to discuss the characteristics of proposed works for each approach, as well as identify the trade-offs for each different approach.& COPY; 2023 The Author(s). A Mobile-Based Attribute Aggregation Architecture for User-Centric Identity Management

Abstract
The massive growth of the Internet and its services is currently being sustained by the mercantilization of users' identities and private data. Traditional services on the Web require the user to disclose many unnecessary sensitive identity attributes like bankcards, geographic position, or even personal health records in order to provide a service. In essence, the services are presented as free and constitute a means by which the user is mercantilized, often without realizing the real value of its data to the market. In this chapter the auhors describe OFELIA (Open Federated Environment for Leveraging of Identity and Authorization), a digital identity architecture designed from the ground up to be user centric. OFELIA is an identity/authorization versatile infrastructure that does not depend upon the massive aggregation of users' identity attributes to offer a highly versatile set of identity services but relies instead on having those attributes distributed among and protected by several otherwise unrelated Attribute Authorities. Only the end user, with his smartphone, knows how to aggregate these scattered Attribute Authorities' identity attributes back into some useful identifiable and authenticated entity identity that can then be used by Internet services in a secure and interoperable way.
