Abstract
One way to mitigate the high costs of doing science or business at sea is to create technological infrastructures possessing all the skills and resources needed for successful maritime operations, and make those capabilities and skills available to the external entities requiring them. By doing so, the individual economic and scientific agents can be spared the enormous effort of creating and maintaining their own, particular set of equivalent capabilities, thus drastically lowering their initial operating costs. In addition to cost savings, operating based on fully-fledged, shared infrastructures not only allows the use of more advanced scientific equipment and highly skilled personnel, but it also enables the business teams (be it industry or research) to focus on their goals, rather than on equipment, logistics, and support. This paper will describe the TEC4SEA infrastructure, created precisely to operate as described. This infrastructure has been under implementation in the last few years, and has now entered its operational phase. This paper will describe it, present its current portfolio of services, and discuss the most relevant assets and facilities that have been recently acquired, so that the research and industrial communities requiring the use of such assets can fully evaluate their adequacy for their own purposes and projects.

Abstract
Management of network resources in advanced IoT applications is a challenging topic due to their distributed nature from the Edge to the Cloud, and the heavy demand of real-time data from many sources to take action in the deployment. FANETs (Flying Ad-hoc Networks) are a clear example of heterogeneous multi-modal use cases, which require strict quality in the network communications, as well as the coordination of the computing capabilities, in order to operate correctly the final service. In this paper, we present a Virtual Network Embedding (VNE) framework designed for the allocation of dataflow applications, composed of nano-services that produce or consume data, in a wireless infrastructure, such as an airborne network. To address the problem, an anypath-based heuristic algorithm that considers the quality demand of the communication between nano-services is proposed, coined as Quality-Revenue Paired Anypath Dataflow VNE (QRPAD-VNE). We also provide a simulation environment for the evaluation of its performance according to the virtual network (VN) request load in the system. Finally, we show the suitability of a multi-parameter framework in conjunction with anypath routing in order to have better performance results that guarantee minimum quality in the wireless communications.

Abstract
Several research works have applied Reinforcement Learning (RL) algorithms to solve the Rate Adaptation (RA) problem in Wi-Fi networks. The dynamic nature of the radio link requires the algorithms to be responsive to changes in link quality. Delays in the execution of the algorithm due to implementional details may be detrimental to its performance, which in turn may decrease network performance. These delays can be avoided to a certain extent. However, this aspect has been overlooked in the state of the art when using simulated environments, since the computational delays are not considered. In this paper, we present an analysis of computational delays and their impact on the performance of RL-based RA algorithms, and propose a methodology to incorporate the experimental computational delays of the algorithms from running in a specific target hardware, in a simulation environment. Our simulation results considering the real computational delays showed that these delays do, in fact, degrade the algorithm’s execution and training capabilities which, in the end, has a negative impact on network performance. © ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2024.

Abstract
There is a growing trend towards convergence of telecommunication and data networks in order to support a richer set of services and applications. At the same time, increasing diversity and density of network access technologies has made the goal of providing connectivity anytime and anywhere a real possibility. Another important development is the emergence of small, low-complexity user owned networks, such as Personal Area Networks and Body Area Networks. Dynamic interworking, also known as network composition, between networks of different types and sizes is essential in the push towards convergence, as well as to realize truly seamless connectivity between heterogeneous access networks. Dynamic interworking requires signalling between different elements of the control planes of the different networks in order to coordinate the control functions and resources of the networks concerned. In this paper, we present the Generic Ambient Network Signalling protocol suite to address the diverse signalling requirements for dynamic interworking of networks.

Abstract
The efficiency of network attachment plays a crucial role in the performance of accessing services in new environments. As an example, when a moving network is changing its location relative to attachment points, the detection of the candidate access networks along with their properties and security relationships needs to be carefully managed. This paper presents the framework and mechanisms for network attachment of Ambient Networks. Different steps required for optimizing the network attachment procedure are studied, and a secure network attachment protocol is proposed.

Abstract
The convergence of mobile domain and data networks has been under focus in the standardization forums. However, dynamic interworking of wired infrastructure, wireless access systems and small scale Personal Area Networks has been challenging due to their heterogeneous nature. One of the most important problems to be solved is name resolution between different terminals and networks. This paper presents a new mechanism for name resolution, which relies on existing naming mechanisms. In particular the focus is on the scalability of the solution from signaling load and latency point of view.
