EXPERT SYSTEMS

Abstract
As information systems and technologies grow in usage in the agri-food industry, the same has happened to the relevance of Information Systems (IS) that allow for a parallel control, monitoring and management of the organizations' activities and business processes. As the literature proves, the benefits of implementing adequate and interoperable IS are very numerous and tend to represent a significant determinant regarding the organizations' overall success. Despite this, to the best of our knowledge there currently is no IS architecture designed to serve the specificities of the agri-food industry. With this study a novel information systems architecture for the agri-food sector is proposed. The artefact is composed by 12 integrated main components and a set of subcomponents aimed at supporting all the monitoring, control and management activities. In order to validate the proposed architecture a case study was implemented at a mushroom production organization. This allowed us to perceive the ability of our artefact to serve as the basis for the development of IS that address all of the organization's business and environmental needs.

Top 10 Challenges of Big Data Analytics

Abstract
The application of big data analytics in all fields of research is a critical driver for the competitiveness of all countries in the modern world. Currently, governments and industry generate large amounts of data driven by record keeping, compliance, regulations, data privacy, and dynamic requirements, and thus there is a need to create better mechanisms to analyse data, and hence support organizational development, as well as providing aid to policymakers’ decision-making processes. In this context, there are emerging disruptive opportunities because of Big Data: new business models, and vertical industry segments will emerge through shared relationships with all the stakeholders, and big data analytics is a major asset to support these dynamic relationships. This book was developed with the objective of analysing some of those challenges while at the same time providing a perspective of the potential of big data analytics, and the importance that analytics have for managers and for policymakers, to help define new strategies and new public policies, respectively. The book is focused on different sectors of activity (i.e. the Health sector, Public Administration, the Education sector, among others), and on different economic dimensions (i.e. Entrepreneurship, and Innovation) and links big data analytics to different fields of research, such as artificial intelligence and other emergent technologies; which are challenging organisations, governments, and societies, with the need to face the new imperative of being prepared for the very uncertain and tremendously complex future - in which big data analytics will play a very decisive and active role.

ADVANCES IN TOURISM, TECHNOLOGY AND SYSTEMS, VOL 1

Abstract
The tradition of wine production and consumption in Portugal is widely spread since the country presents climatic and territorial characteristics which have made wine-making an important strategic sector. In addition, the essence of the wine industry has led to greater tourism, thus enhancing the growth of enotourism. Given the importance of the wine production sector in the national context, as well as the potential of Industry 4.0 to stimulate improvements both in efficiency and competitiveness, the objective of this work is to achieve a better understanding of how Industry 4.0 and its key features, namely simulation, can influence wine production and enotourism.

Abstract
Higher Education Institutions (HEI) play a central role in shaping the future through their ability to transmit, innovate and generate knowledge, near their students and community. They also establish strong relationship within society and the environment. Higher Education plays an important role in laying the foundations for the development of competencies for sustainable entrepreneurship, competencies that go beyond disciplinary knowledge and encompass skills, knowledge, and attitudes focused towards a holistic and sustainability-oriented approach. By preparing their students for the labour market, HEIs are proactively responding to the wide range of challenges that the dynamic and uncertain environment of the 21st-century presents. However, the demand is great and the road to be travelled is long. The literature review is extensive about the expected competencies, all indicating that they are critical success factors for individuals to ensure and sustain their career progression. Today's students are tomorrow leaders, players who can shape the world, make it a better place to live and work. Based on personal characteristics (attitudes and personality) and leadership, this study aims to contribute a better understanding of the relationships between these factors, with a particular focus on entrepreneurship. Using a quantitative approach, a questionnaire was given to undergraduate students of the Polytechnic Institute of Cavado and Ave (IPCA), in Portugal. The data were analysed and discussed according to the possible impact of the entrepreneurial leader's behaviour and the performance of the HEI where he/she is inserted.

PROCEEDINGS OF THE 17TH EUROPEAN CONFERENCE ON MANAGEMENT, LEADERSHIP AND GOVERNANCE (ECMLG 2021)

Abstract
We are going through perhaps the greatest crisis of our lives, where the pace of decision making, and the adoption of new public policies may indelibly condition individual and collective futures. Among other megatrends, Covid-19's impact on the digital world will facilitate the trend towards osmosis between real and virtual, human, machine and nature, public and private. The migration of all economic activities to digital, for safety and business survival reasons, will require adaptation and transition models to the new digital reality. The acceleration of digital transformation in hardware and software infrastructures will also lead to remodelling and innovate in all socio-economic, labour, and educational activities. The trend towards skills and qualifications will become more imperative. Higher Education Institutions can have a central role in developing the needed skills with their students, providing digital skills as well as pedagogical policies that stimulates them, specially focused on leadership, critical thinking, and creativity. This research aims to understand what the perceptions of the demand for digital workforce competencies are. It also intends to comprehend how those competencies are linked with entrepreneurship and leadership. After a literature review, data are presented and discussed, as well as conclusions and future potential research directions.
