KSII TRANSACTIONS ON INTERNET AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS

Abstract
Information Technology (IT) plays an increasingly important role for small and medium-sized enterprises. It has become fundamental for these companies to protect information and IT assets in relation to risks and threats that have grown in recent years. This study aims to understand the importance and structure of an information security policy, using a quantitative study that intends to identify the most important and least relevant elements of an information security policy document. The findings of this study reveal that the top three most important elements in the structure of a security policy are the asset management, security risk management and define the scope of the policy. On the other side, the three least relevant elements include the executive summary, contacts and manual inspection. Additionally, the study reveals that the importance given to each element of the security policy is slightly changed according to the sectors of activity. The elements that show the greatest variability are the review process, executive summary and penalties. On the other side, the purpose of the policy and the asset management present a stable importance for all sectors of activity.

Abstract
The success of the students' internship in business contexts assumes today a core mission in the future professional career of students. There is a window of opportunity to include a decision support decision in a higher education context that could help course coordinators to identify the best students and proposal, and, thus, increase the satisfaction levels of the overall assignment internship process. The proposed model is composed of seven phases which includes the evaluation process of students, proposals and the assignment process itself. The model can also be easily extended to support nine phases, which includes the student's choice of their internship place. The model is characterized to be iterative based on its structure, and also interactive by allowing the participation of the course coordinator and students in the process. The results obtained from four scenarios have demonstrated the validity of the proposed model and the high level of correlation between students and proposals in the assignment process.

Emerging Science Journal

Abstract
The evolution of information systems and the growth in the use of the Internet and social networks has caused an explosion in the amount of available data relevant to the activities of the companies. Therefore, the treatment of these available data is vital to support operational, tactical and strategic decisions. This paper aims to present the concept of big data and the main technologies that support the analysis of large data volumes. The potential of big data is explored considering nine sectors of activity, such as financial, retail, healthcare, transports, agriculture, energy, manufacturing, public, and media and entertainment. In addition, the main current opportunities, vulnerabilities and privacy challenges of big data are discussed. It was possible to conclude that despite the potential for using the big data to grow in the previously identified areas, there are still some challenges that need to be considered and mitigated, namely the privacy of information, the existence of qualified human resources to work with Big Data and the promotion of a data-driven organizational culture.

MANAGEMENT RESEARCH AND PRACTICE

Abstract
The need for innovation and the ability to transfer knowledge to society and industry are essential for the development of current economy. In this sense, universities play a crucial role in this mission, and university spin-offs have become one of the most popular mechanisms of academic knowledge transfer. The purpose of this paper is to perform a literature review in the field of university spin-offs. The adopted methodology starts by creating a conceptual map of the various research areas around university spin-offs, followed by the identification of the most predominant studies in the field taking into account the number of citations. The findings indicate that the main explored dimensions in the university spin-offs research include the process of technology transfer, the role of university in the society, the regional context of the university and the impact of university spin-offs considering several dimensions. On the other side the least explored dimensions include the analysis of the founders' background, and the establishment of public policies to support the activities of university spin-offs.

Abstract

Social economy has assumed a role of growing importance in these last decades, being seen by several entities and political agents as one of the pillars in a new sustainable economic model. Volunteer programs are multiplying, and greater coordination between the various involved actors is essential to guarantee that society's help reaches the people who need them. In this sense, a digital donation platform based exclusively on open source technologies has been proposed and developed, which simplifies the process of donation of goods to a set of causes created by social solidarity institutions. The application permits anonymous donations and allows the monitoring of the status of each donation by the donors. Additionally, usability was considered as a key element in the design of the application
