João Pascoal Faria, researcher at the Information and Computer Graphics Systems unit (USIG) received the "Best Paper Award" at the MODELS 2010 - 13th International Conference on Model Driven Engineering Languages and Systems. The award winning article "A Metamodel-based Approach for Automatic User Interface Generation" was co-written with a doctorate student António Miguel Rosado da Cruz, from the Doctoral Programme in Informatics Engineering (ProDEI).

The Information and Computer Graphics Systems Unit (USIG) and the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) for INESC Porto have recently had project CNG approved. The project, developed within the scope of The National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF), is linked to the New Generation Network.

INESC Porto signed last July a Collaboration Protocol with the Municipality of Santa Maria da Feira and with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation for the development and implementation of a collaboration platform, which will be developed by INESC Porto’s Information and Computer Graphics Systems Unit (USIG). The aim is to support the Social Division of the Municipality of Santa Maria da Feira and the respective partners in the management of activities performed within several projects. Entitled “e-mili@”, this platform aims at increasing and improving access to ICTs by the senior population of Santa Maria da Feira.

The official website of the RAIA project, in which the Information and Computer Graphics Systems (USIG) is currently participating, has recently made public some functional examples – with real data – for the publication and sharing of data and models, such as the most recent observations obtained at the Cortegada Ocean-Meteorological Platform, Pilar de Rande and Boia de Cíes, as well as an updated list of the services provided by the observatory.

Hugo Ferreira, Ademar Aguiar and João Pascoal Faria, researchers at the Information and Communication Systems Unit (USIC) of INESC Porto, received the Best Paper Award at the SEDES workshop, organized by ICSEA 2009 - The Fourth International Conference on Software Engineering Advances, which took place between 20 and 25 September 2009 in Porto.

Alexandre Valle de Carvalho, researcher at INESC Porto’s Information and Communication Unit (USIC) will be in Berlin in January as visiting professor at the University of Potsdam and as guest researcher at the Hasso-Plattner Institut (HPI). The invitation was made by Juergen Doellner, director of the Department of Graphic Computing at HPI and professor at the University of Potsdam.

The project RAIA - Ocean Observatory for the Iberian Coast has been recently approved. The aim with this project is to implement a cross-border ocean observation network that consolidates operational oceanography on the Iberian coast, thus creating new scientific and technologic opportunities that promote ocean economy.

In the context of the Collaboration Protocol concluded with CCDR-N, the authority elected to manage the Atlantic Area Transnational Programme, which will take place between 2007-2013 including the 36 regions (NUTS II) with an Atlantic front in Portugal, Spain, France, United Kingdom and Ireland, INESC Porto has been cooperating in the development of a tool to support this Programme’s management. This project follows the previous Interreg III B Atlantic Area.

INESC Porto participated in the Final International Meeting of the OQR MARE – Regional Framework Operation, “Metropolitan Mobility and Accessibility in the Southern European Regions”, organised by the Commission for the Regional Coordination and Development in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley Regions (CCDR-LVT). The meeting took place on 19 June at the Lisbon International Fair (FIL).
