DIGITAL SUSTAINABILITY: INCLUSION AND TRANSFORMATION, ISPGAYA 2023
Abstract
The congress which ISPGAYA organized in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, on 26 and 27 October 2023 is based on the theme of sustainability, meeting the current academic, social, and political agenda. The congress is based on the theme of digital sustainability, meeting the current academic, social, and political agenda. This event brings together the different scientific areas of ISPGAYA and seeks to highlight the set of interdisciplinary and multilevel efforts to change the existing reality, supported by the affinity of ideas and attitudes, knowledge, and practices. Contributions from different institutions, national and international, that make up the technological and scientific system, asserting the concertation of strategies at local, regional, and global levels, and the interconnection between synergistic contributions of the living forces to mobilize toward to consolidate planetary sustainability over the next few decades. The scope of this book comprehends manuscripts submitted under the various thematic: Industrial Automation; Energy Efficiency; Information Technology & Cybersecurity; Management & Administration; Marketing; Tourism & Leisure; Education. All these scientific areas are connected by the main issue sustainability. Researchers, professionals, and students from different areas participate in this sharing of knowledge, suggesting a reticular logic and partnerships in the approach to sustainability. The publication of this book of proceedings intends to increase and dynamize investigation linking theory and practice, always pointing to innovative approaches, and mainly, involve as many people and institutions as possible in the direction of a smart national and global development model, meeting the intentions of the 2030 agenda outlined by the United Nations. We lift the veil on responsible innovation including technology innovation and entrepreneurship toward innovation for sustainable development and make positive impact in the ongoing paradigm shift from a same development model to building a safe operating space for a SMART Earth3 model, comprising Local Sustainable Development Goals.

Abstract
Narratives have been the subject of extensive research across various scientific fields such as linguistics and computer science. However, the scarcity of freely available datasets, essential for studying this genre, remains a significant obstacle. Furthermore, datasets annotated with narratives components and their morphosyntactic and semantic information are even scarcer. To address this gap, we developed the Text2Story Lusa datasets, which consist of a collection of news articles in European Portuguese. The first datasets consists of 357 news articles and the second dataset comprises a subset of 117 manually densely annotated articles, totaling over 50 thousand individual annotations. By focusing on texts with substantial narrative elements, we aim to provide a valuable resource for studying narrative structures in European Portuguese news articles. On the one hand, the first dataset provides researchers with data to study narratives from various perspectives. On the other hand, the annotated dataset facilitates research in information extraction and related tasks, particularly in the context of narrative extraction pipelines. Both datasets are made available adhering to FAIR principles, thereby enhancing their utility within the research community.

Abstract
The adoption of open innovation poses significant challenges that are important to explore. Studies in this field have mainly focused on exploring the causes of the failure of open innovation among large companies. This study addresses this research gap by employing a sample of 297 Portuguese small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to explore, through a quantitative study, whether the dimensions and causes of failure differ between large organizations and SMEs. A total of seven dimensions of causes of failure are considered, including strategy-related, organizational structure, organizational culture, knowledge and intellectual property management, management skill and action, resources, and interfirm collaboration. The findings reveal significant differences in four of these seven dimensions: the main causes of failure are related to the resources and management processes of open innovation in SMEs, while large companies face more challenges in the organizational structure and culture components. This study offers theoretical insights into the gaps in the literature to better understand the challenges facing open innovation. Furthermore, this study offers practical guidelines for SMEs to identify and mitigate these main obstacles, promoting better innovation management practices.

Abstract
In an era dominated by Location-Based Services (LBSs), the concern of preserving location privacy has emerged as a critical challenge. To address this, Location Privacy-Preserving Mechanisms (LPPMs) were proposed, in where an obfuscated version of the exact user location is reported instead. Adding to noise-based mechanisms, location discretization, the process of transforming continuous location data into discrete representations, is relevant for the efficient storage of data, simplifying the process of manipulating the information in a digital system and reducing the computational overhead. Apart from enabling a more efficient data storage and processing, location discretization can also be performed with privacy requirements, so as to ensure discretization while providing privacy benefits. In this work, we propose a Privacy-Aware Remapping mechanism that is able to improve the privacy level attained by Geo-Indistinguishability through a tailored pre-processing discretization step. The proposed remapping technique is capable of reducing the re-identification risk of locations under Geo-Indistinguishability, with limited impact on quality loss.

Abstract
Underwater wireless communications play a significant role in the Blue Economy, supporting the operations of sensing platforms like Autonomous Surface Vehicles (ASVs) and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs). These platforms require reliable and fast communications to transmit the extensive data gathered without surfacing. Yet, the ocean poses challenges to signal propagation, restricting communications to high bitrate at short ranges via optical and RF, or low bitrate at long distances using acoustic communications. This paper introduces Aquacom, a multimodal manager for underwater communications that integrates acoustic, RF, and optical communnications, ensuring seamless handover between technologies and link aggregation to enhance network performance. Upon validation in freshwater tank lab tests, Aquacom demonstrated the capability for switching interfaces without data loss and effective link aggregation through the simultaneous use of multiple wireless interfaces.
