Restless Millennials in Higher Education - A New Perspective on Knowledge Management and Its Dissemination Using IT in Academia

RECENT ADVANCES IN INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGIES, VOL 2

Abstract
Seventy millennial students answered a survey on attitudes towards leadership and their desired approach to higher education. What is their perspective on knowledge management and dissemination in academia? Some romanticizing may be beneficial, but the great majority of students want to be enlightened and well-prepared for that which they will encounter in business markets. Three interviews with seasoned executives were also performed, to establish a contrast and see other perspectives. We conclude that to become a great corporate leader may in fact be dependent on your DNA and personality make-up, but this is not what is thought to be true, by the majority of the respondents in the survey. Motivation took the most votes as being fundamental for success, a positive sign and indicative of a hard working millennial generation, contrary to previous research findings. IT is also a precious partner in class, in particular Padlet.com, Moodle, the online News Forum, as well as the challenge to create original videos about course content.

Abstract
This paper proposes a Predictive Dispatch System (PDS) as part of a Multi-Agent system that models the Smart Home Electricity System (MASHES). The proposed PDS consists of a Decision-Making System (DMS) and a Prediction Engine (PE). The considered Smart Home Electricity System (SHES) consists of different agents, each with different tasks in the system. A Modified Stochastic Predicted Bands (MSPB) interval optimization method is used to model the uncertainty in the Home Energy Management (HEM) problem. Moreover, the proposed method to solve HEM problem is based on the Moving Window Algorithm (MWA). The performance of the proposed Home Energy Management System (HEMS) is evaluated using a JADE implementation of the MASHES.

Abstract
This paper presents REQCAP, an implementation of a new method that articulates hierarchical requirements modeling and test generation to assist in the process of capturing requirements for PLC-based control systems. REQCAP is based on a semi-formal graphical model that supports hierarchical modeling, thus enabling compositional specifications. The tool supports automated generation of test cases according to different coverage criteria. It can also import requirements directly from REQIF files and automatically generate Sequential Function Charts (SFCs). We use a real-world case study to show how REQCAP can be used to model realistic system requirements. We show how the automated generation of SFCs and test cases can support engineers (and clients) in visualizing and reviewing requirements. Moreover, all the tests listed in the original test document of the case study are also generated automatically by REQCAP, demonstrating that the tool can be used to effectively capture requirements and generate valid and useful test cases.

AMBIENT INTELLIGENCE- SOFTWARE AND APPLICATIONS- 8TH INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON AMBIENT INTELLIGENCE (ISAMI 2017)

Abstract
This paper proposes a review of Energy Management Systems (EMSs) based on Multi-Agent Systems (MASs). Also, goal, scale, strategy and software are discussed as different characteristics of the EMSs. Then, multi agent-based structure of the EMSs is described. Finally, challenges and future discussions related to the EMSs are presented in this paper.

Abstract
Global warming and the depletion of fossil fuels suggest the need to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels in the production of electricity worldwide, as well as to intensify the study and application of sustainable renewable energy technologies. Solar energy is very promising due to: (i) its enormous energy potential; (ii) its clean nature; (iii) the fact that it is available and abundant in large areas of the planet. Therefore, projections for solar electricity generation are very good, considering that the systems' performances are improving sharply, while prices go down. In this paper, the potential of concentrated solar power (CSP) for electricity generation in Portugal is evaluated. After analysing solar radiation data for Portugal mainland and the Portuguese national electricity grid, it is shown that one of the most favourable locations for the installation of a CSP plant is the region of Tavira, in the south of Portugal. Subsequently, the simulation of a 20MW parabolic trough concentrator (PTC) plant is performed and the obtained results are discussed. Results prove that Portugal has adequate solar resources to implement CSP despite the intra annual variability. Finally, it is shown that a CSP energy project may be economically competitive in Portugal, with the advantage of creating jobs and increasing research and industry in this field.
