DER and load allocation for an unbalanced distribution networks state estimator

Abstract
This paper describes the work done in the 3PHASE project, regarding the development of a state estimator for distribution networks handling substantial integration of DER (Distributed Energy Resources), AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) data and unbalanced and asymmetrical configurations. The load and DER power allocation presented here, as part of a DMS system, constitutes a first estimation of the network, assuming an extreme importance for other studies as it helps solve the lack of measurements problem.

An Agent-Based MicMac Model for Forecasting of the Portuguese Population

Abstract
Simulation is often used to forecast human populations. In this paper we use a novel approach by combining Micro-Macro (MicMac) models into an Agent-Based perspective to simulate and forecast the behavior of the Portuguese population. The models include migrations and three scenarios corresponding to three different expected economic growth rates. We conclude that the increase in the number of emigrants leads to a reduction of the Portuguese women that are in the fertile age. This justifies the decrease of births and therefore the general decrease of the total Portuguese Population.

Towards a Reliable Monitoring Robot for Mountain Vineyards

Abstract
Crop monitoring and harvesting by ground robots on mountain vineyards is an intrinsically complex challenge, due to two main reasons: harsh conditions of the terrain and reduced time availability and unstable localization accuracy of the GPS system. In this paper is presented a cost effective robot that can be used on these mountain vineyards for crop monitoring tasks. Also it is explored a natural vineyard feature as the input of a standard 2D simultaneous localization and mapping approach (SLAM) for feature-based map extraction. In order to be possible to evaluate these natural features for mapping and localization purposes, a virtual scenario under ROS/Gazebo has been built and described. A low cost artificial landmark and an hybrid SLAM is proposed to increase the localization accuracy, robustness and redundancy on these mountain vineyards. The obtained results, on the simulation framework, validates the use of a localization system based on natural mountain vineyard features.

Cost allocation model for distribution networks considering high penetration of distributed energy resources

Abstract
The high penetration of distributed energy resources (DER) in distribution networks and the competitive environment of electricity markets impose the use of new approaches in several domains. The network cost allocation, traditionally used in transmission networks, should be adapted and used in the distribution networks considering the specifications of the connected resources. The main goal is to develop a fairer methodology trying to distribute the distribution network use costs to all players which are using the network in each period. In this paper, a model considering different type of costs (fixed, losses, and congestion costs) is proposed comprising the use of a large set of DER, namely distributed generation (DG), demand response (DR) of direct load control type, energy storage systems (ESS), and electric vehicles with capability of discharging energy to the network, which is known as vehicle-to-grid (V2G). The proposed model includes three distinct phases of operation. The first phase of the model consists in an economic dispatch based on an AC optimal power flow (AC-OPF); in the second phase Kirschen's and Bialek's tracing algorithms are used and compared to evaluate the impact of each resource in the network. Finally, the MW-mile method is used in the third phase of the proposed model. A distribution network of 33 buses with large penetration of DER is used to illustrate the application of the proposed model.

Analysis of strategic wind power participation in energy market using MASCEM simulator

Abstract
In recent years the reassessment of remuneration schemes for renewable sources in several European countries has motivated the increase of wind power generation participation in electricity markets. Moreover, the continuous growth of wind power generation, as well as the evolution of wind turbines technology, suggests that wind power plants may participate in both energy and ancillary services markets with strategic behavior to improve their benefits. Thus, wind power generation with strategic behavior may have impact on market equilibrium and pricing. This paper evaluates the impact of a proportional offering strategy for wind power plants to participate in both energy and ancillary services markets. MASCEM (Multi-Agent System for Competitive Electricity Markets) is used to simulate and validate the impact of wind power plants in market equilibrium. A case study based on real and recent data for the Iberian market and its specific rules is simulated in MASCEM. © 2015 IEEE.
