Abstract
Information technology and information systems have evolved dramatically over the last half-century, playing an absolutely central and crucial role in the success of today's organizations. Therefore, the complexity of the information systems function has also increased significantly, which requires the use of more evolved software tools to support the information system function activities. In this paper we present a matrix of the main tools available for the information system function, which can help Chief Information Officers to identify the right tools to use in their departments.

Abstract
Electronic commerce is currently a world-wide phenomenon, with multiple impacts on the success and evolution of organizations of various business areas, due to its unique features that both challenge and revolutionize traditional entrepreneurial reasoning. However, many enterprises have experienced difficulties with their e-commerce initiatives, either due to lack of information, or because of the innumerable difficulties found in the definition of an action plan. Recognizing the importance of a broad and deep understanding of the multiple aspects supporting and constraining e-commerce, a theoretical model that explains electronic commerce initiatives is proposed. The model was developed following a qualitative methodology known as Grounded Theory, whose purpose is to assist organizations in their e-commerce initiatives. The work led to the identification and description of factors that influence the adoption and exploitation of e-commerce in Portuguese organizations.

Abstract
As we observe society in our days, we can see that people live longer; this means that we have an older population. As we know, elder are more likely to have health issues. The special needs presented by elder are gaining a major concern from all of us. Another tendency of our society is the lack of time that people demonstrate and, as a consequence, the lack of time reflects when families can't take care of their own elders. Many solutions are being presented in order to solve this problem. Some of them are taking advantage of the new technology developments in body sensor network area. In this paper we proposed an architecture of a system called Elder Care. The Elder Care solution has two primary goals: monitoring vital signs, sending alerts to family and specialized help and provide a social network in order to wrap all elder to avoid social isolation. © 2008 IEEE.

Abstract
This study provides some empirical insight on the barriers that chief information officers face in their Job. The findings of the survey we conducted directed to the chief information officers of the 500 large Portuguese companies by gross revenue, suggest; three main barriers: the lack of time to think and define strategies, the overwhelming backlog of requests and projects and inadequate budgets. The knowledge and understanding of the identified barriers contributes to the characterization of chief information officer role state of the art and should be useful for practitioners, who may use it as a basis for developing solutions in order to overcome these barriers.

With the purpose of identifying and characterizing which software tools chief information officers of large Portuguese companies use in their work,, we dei,eloped a study with the participation. of several chief information officers. The study seeks answers to the question: Does the chief information officer in Portuguese large companies uses advanced information technology solutions in his/her work or, as that old saying, the shoemaker's wife is the worse shod. The findings of this study reveal that the chief information officers are not using all the potential of the software tools that would give them a better performance in their jobs.
