Abstract
Outsourcing has become a major component of information technology strategy in many companies around the world. From the early 1990s to the present, the reality of sourcing has varied significantly, an example being the services that companies typically choose to transfer to external providers, which are now different from those of one or two decades ago. This paper discusses the results of a survey conducted to determine the current outsourcing status of information systems services in large Portuguese organisations, by identifying the services that companies keep inside their boundaries and services that companies outsource to vendors. It also presents a comparison of the results from this study with results from studies developed in other countries. These findings should be useful both for researchers, who can use it to study the outsourcing and information systems function evolution, and for practitioners, mainly vendors, who may use it to build up its offer in agreement with the buyers' needs and wishes. INNOVATION AND KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT IN TWIN TRACK ECONOMIES: CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS, VOLS 1-3
Abstract
The activities and skills of the information systems manager evolved extraordinarily in the last half century, from the technician who managed an operational function with a limited importance to the organization, to the position chief information officer, now responsible for a department on which depends the overall success of the organization. This study provides some empirical insight on the chief information officer profession in Portugal. We conducted a survey directed to the chief information officers of Portuguese largest organizations to investigate how they spend their time and to evaluate which are the most important skills for the role they play on the organization. We also compare the results obtained with other studies to try to unveil which differences exist in the activities performed by Portuguese chief information officers and chief information officers from other countries. This study can also be viewed as a guideline for the development and training of existing chief information officers as well as for hiring new managers for this position with the right skills, to assure the right management of information systems.

WORLD CONGRESS ON MEDICAL PHYSICS AND BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING, VOL 25, PT 2 - DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING
Abstract
The purpose of the described system is to aid radiologists on their daily routine in the task of analyzing HRCT lung images and to contribute to a more accurate and fast diagnosis. We developed a framework - Study Lung Tool-with the objective of gather information from radiologists, in a systematic way. Using Study Lung Tool framework, the radiologist analyzes HRCT scans, outlines regions of typical pattern and characterizes the patterns. A database of typical patterns associated with common pulmonary diseases was created. The information gathered can be a valuable teaching tool to every one that intends to understand HRCT lung parenchyma. The proposed system discriminates between normal and abnormal patterns of lung parenchyma based on statistical texture analysis extracted from HRCT lung scans. An overall accuracy of 89,2%, a sensitivity of 92,7% and a specificity of 83,6% were achieved.

Abstract
The complexity of Information Technology and Information Systems within organizations keeps growing rapidly. As a result, the work of the Chief Information Officer is becoming increasingly difficult, since he has to manage multiple technologies and perform several activities of different nature. In this position paper, we prove the development of a new tool for Chief Information Officers, which will systematize and aggregate the enterprise Information Systems Function information.

SISTEMAS E TECHNOLOGIAS DE INFORMACAO: ACTAS DA 4A CONFERENCIA IBERICA DE SISTEMAS E TECNOLOGIAS DE LA INFORMACAO
Abstract
In this paper is presented a project -CAD Lung System- whose objective is to help radiologists in their daily routine, in the HRCT images analysis of lung parenchyma. A database of abnormal lung patterns and their reliable classification is a determinant part of the system. We developed a framework -Study Lung Tool- with the objective of gather information from radiologist, in a systematic way. Using this framework, the radiologist analyses HRCT scans, outlines regions of typical pattern and characterizes the pattern. This framework can also be used as a learning tool through the observation of the HRCT scans previously characterized by experts.
