The main objective of the Vine & Wine Portugal Agenda, supported by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) is to promote energy transition and digital innovation, while generating added value through the Portuguese winemaking sector. The development or presentation of mature technologies will be a key-element of the project, enabling the promotion of a more sustainable and environmentally friendly production – aspects that are quite relevant to a sector that’s highly influenced by climate change.

The research work The pallet loading problem: a review of solution methods and computational experiments, by Elsa Silva and José Fernando Oliveira, researchers at INESC TEC, and Gerhard Wäscher, professor at Otto-von-Guericke University, in Magdeburg (Germany), was one of 30 papers selected to feature in the edition marking the 30th anniversary of the International Transactions in Operational Research (ITOR) journal.

Henrique Diogo Silva, researcher at INESC TEC and PhD student at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), is one of the winners of this year’s edition of the R&D@USA grant programme, promoted by the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) and the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). Those selected have the possibility to carry out a research internship in the United States of America.

Close to 40 entrepreneurs and managers, representatives of technology demonstrators and researchers from the scientific and technological ecosystem participated in the innovation workshops promoted within the scope of the SAP 4.0 project; the initiative took place at INESC TEC’s iiLab – Industry and Innovation Laboratory. The project is promoted by the Business Association of Oliveira de Azeméis (AECOA) and co-promoted by the Business Association of Santa Maria da Feira (AEF), with INESC TEC participating as technological partner.

Do you have a vegetable garden for self-sufficiency? Is it complicated to go there sometimes, to check on the condition of your vegetables? Leandro Rodrigues, a researcher at INESC TEC, developed a technology to help producers monitor the growth rate of their crops. This robotic prototype earned him a place among the winners of the 2022 edition of the Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge.

The FD Controlo operational group promoted a field day in Amares (Braga) with close to 80 participants, representing partners and entities that studyflavescence dorée of the vines. The event included the presentation of the results in the area, namely an intelligent trap that will support the early detection of the disease.

INESC TEC applied its digital maturity assessment methodology to analyse and characterise the level of digitalisation of companies in the Douro and Vouga region. The work developed within the scope of the SAP 4.0 project, promoted by the Oliveira de Azeméis Municipality Business Association (AECOA) and the Business Association of the Municipality of Santa Maria da Feira (AEF), allowed evaluating the level of digital maturity of companies and draw a picture that will serve as a basis for the development of the strategic technological plan towards the adoption of digital technologies for the benefit of companies.

What if factory staff could wear glasses that allowed them to see, besides the real environment, an additional set of information, like instructions on production or quality control operations? This is the goal of the DEO – Digital Enhanced Operator, a project that brings together INESC TEC, SkillAugment, and Volkswagen Autoeuropa; the goal is to integrate augmented reality into the automotive industry, improving the skills of operators and contributing to increased levels of productivity and production quality.
