Report on INESC TEC project receives National Innovation Journalism Award

Rádio Renascença’s report on the ColRobot, a project developed at INESC TEC, was one of the winners of the National Innovation Journalism Award, in the Radio category.

26th November 2020

The report “ColRobot wants to revolutionise the automotive and aerospace sectors”, written by journalist André Rodrigues and published in January 2019, explains, in a few minutes, how the robot works, and its application and impact on the automotive and aerospace industries, with an interview with Germano Veiga, assistant coordinator of the Centre for Robotics in Industry and Intelligent Systems (CRIIS).

Colrobot is a mobile manipulator that works as a “third hand” that delivers kits, tools and parts, also serving to hold parts while the operators works with them. The robot is able to navigate the shop floor to collect the required parts and tools, as well as to prepare the kits for assembly. INESC TEC was one of the partners of this European project, carried out between 2016 and 2019.

In addition to the journalist André Rodrigues, the National Innovation Journalism Award also acknowledged Manuel Pestana Machado (Observador), Bruno Filipe Pires (Barlavento), Mariana Nogueira Miranda (Jornal Universitário do Porto) and Duarte Baltazar (RTP).

The award is promoted by the ANI – Agência Nacional de Inovação, supported by the Portuguese Regulatory Authority for the Media (ERC) and the Union of Journalists. The ANI granted the awards on November 11.

The INESC TEC researcher mentioned in this news piece is associated with UP-FEUP.
