The phone app meuparlamento.pt is one of the 40 winners of the World Summit Awards, an international competition that elects projects focused on promoting digital innovation at local level.

17th March 2020

Nuno Moniz and Arian Pasquali, researchers from INESC TEC Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support (LIAAD) and the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP), and Tomás Amaro, software engineer at Hostelworld, were the ones in charge of developing meuparlamento.pt. This prize was awarded at the WSA congress (March 9-11), in Vienna.

The mobile application - which simulates a plenum at the Assembly of the Republic, allowing citizens to know more and vote on the proposals presented in the Portuguese Parliament – was one of the winners in the category “Government and Citizen Engagement. “After being granted with the Arquivo.pt 2019 award, this recognition at the WSA19 shows that meuParlamento.pt is an initiative with an international impact”, says Nuno Moniz. The app is free and available at App Store and Google Play.

GIVE.ASIA (South Korea), CitizenLab (Belgium), Terridata (Colombia) and Communiteer (Australia) were also selected in the “Government and Citizen Engagement” group.

According to the competition jury, “the 2019 winners show that digital content-oriented solutions decisively support the transformation in knowledge society and help achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They are the proof of the diversity and depth of digital content solutions that exist worldwide. ”

The World Summit Awards focus on digital solutions to fulfil the UN SDGs. In total, this edition awarded 40 projects from 25 countries – after 400 nominations from 182 participating countries.

Besides the category “Government and Citizen Engagement”, where INESC TEC’s mobile app stood out, other projects were awarded in the categories “Health and Well-Being”, “Learning and Education”, “Environment and Green Energy”, “Culture and Tourism”, “Smart Settlements and Urbanization”,“ Business and Commerce ”,“ Inclusion and Empowerment ”and“ WSA Young Innovators”.
