INESC TEC welcomed high school students in Braga
Over a week, 24 students had the opportunity to get in touch with the Computing domain during the “Computing Without Borders” initiative – one of the many part of “Verão no Campus”; the event was promoted by the University of Minho, and took place between July 22 and 26, in Braga.

The students – from many schools in the northern region of Portugal – had the opportunity to carry out paper and robots programming challenges, and play qubits (quantum data unit) games and visit de Deucalion data centre.
“Through several activities focused on Protocols and Distributed Systems, Quantum Computing, Software Validation and Maintenance, High-Performance Computing, and Functional Programming, we introduced students to different Computing areas", explained José Nuno Oliveira, a researcher at INESC TEC and leader of these activities.
"Our main goal is to attract talented young people by showing them the opportunities and challenges of a career in this field. Therefore, for the first time, this edition also included the participation of alumni who shared their experiences – allowing students to understand the added value of this domain”, emphasised the researcher.
The 2024 edition included the participation of the following INESC TEC researchers: Ana Neri, Ana Nunes Alonso, António Sousa, João Barbosa, José Nuno Macedo, José Nuno Oliveira, and Luís Soares Barbosa.
The researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with INESC TEC and U.Minho.
