INESC TEC researcher receives the title of Emeritus Professor of the University of Minho

On June 23, José Manuel Valença, senior researcher at INESC TEC’s High-Assurance Software Laboratory (HASLab) and retired Full Professor at the UMinho School of Engineering, received the title of Emeritus Professor of said Institution.

Awarded by the University of Minho to full retired and retired professors, the title of Emeritus Professor acknowledges the professionals who stood out in their fields of activity, due to the relevance of their contribution, thus ensuring their ongoing support to the University.

José Manuel Valença was one of the founders of HASLab. He also promoted the reformulation of the teaching of Informatics at the University of Minho, namely through the creation of the Mathematics and Computer Science course. He was a chief advisor in the creation of the Portuguese Citizen Card and worked on several security-related projects for different Government ministries, such as electronic voting, the law on digital certification, the reliability of the financial system and the elections to the European Parliament. He was Portugal’s representative at Infosec WG of the Galileo satellite constellation.

This recognition will take place publicly, with the awarding of a diploma and medal during the commemorative ceremony of the University Day, taking place on February 17, 2021.
