Ricardo Bessa was invited as a keynote speaker to the 11th International Ruhr Energy Conference, which took place on September 27 and 28, in Essen (Germany). The researcher explored the theme "Decision-making in energy markets under uncertainty: human-in-the-loop". The senior researcher and coordinator of the Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) presented the concepts he has been developing since 2006, in the field of communication of uncertainty and risk associated with the role of renewable production in the electricity market.
In a conference dedicated to the uncertainties that the energy market is going through, Ricardo Bessa focused on communicating information on renewable production to human operators (traders), and on symbolic artificial intelligence models for optimising supply offers in the electricity market, developed in partnership with Mines ParisTech.
He also presented a review of the chain of models to support the operators' decision, where it is "increasingly important to model aspects such as causality, confidence in the forecasting and the ideal moment of decision-making", stated the researcher.
Each year, the International Ruhr Energy Conference brings together the international community of researchers in the fields of electricity and energy markets.
