During the final event of the NEXT-NET project, held in Brussels on December 17, INESC TEC presented the recommendations for supply chains in 2030. The recommendations are some of the outcomes of the project, which began in October 2017 and whose focus was increasing the production/distribution integration of supply chains, through a multisector and technological initiative aimed at defining research and innovation priorities for the future.

In this sense, different communities like EFFRA (European Factories of the Future Research Association), SPIRE (Sustainable Process Industry through Resource and Energy Efficiency), ALICE (Alliance for Logistics Innovation through Collaboration in Europe) and other technology associations came together to address important challenges, such as personalisation and sustainability – leading to the development of the Strategic Research Agenda. The project also led to the development of the document Next Horizons for European Supply Chains: Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda.

At the final event – the culmination of the two-year work period -, Ana Barros from the Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering (CESE) presented the public policy recommendations on how to prepare Europe for supply chains in 2030 and moderated a round-table on the same subject. Pedro Senna and Ricardo Zimmermann (CESE), as well as Pedro Campos, Kerley Pires and Patrícia Gonçalves from Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support (LIAAD), also contributed to the project.

In addition to INESC TEC, the project partners were CNR STIIMA – Istituto di Sistemi and Tecnologie Industriali per il Manifatturiero Avanzato, PNO Innovation, Fundación Zaragoza Logistics Center, Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics and Aston University.

The European Commission, under the H2020 programme, funded the NEXT-NET project.
