INESC TEC podcast among the nominees for national award

INESC TEC Science Bits was among the five nominees in the “Science, Technology and Education” category of the PODES awards – a national award that aims to acknowledge podcasts in different areas.

28th November 2023

Science Bits featured among the nominees of the PODES awards, integrating a set of 70 nominees, distributed among 14 categories. In addition to Science Bits, the “Science, Technology and Education” category featured Plantas da Serra, Azul, Em Banho Maria and Falando de História. The prize, awarded by a jury of 14 personalities, went to the Azul podcast, by the newspaper Público.

“We’re very happy for this nomination – which, we believe, reinforces the quality of the format and content that we produce, while valuing the contribution that we have been making not only in the dissemination of science, technology and innovation, but also in the discussion around the different themes we address during each episode”, said Sofia Maciel.

According to the Assistant Manager of INESC TEC Communication Service, and leading producer of the podcast, this is a recognition that motivates the Institute’s communication team to keep promoting content and formats towards the development of science communication in Portugal. “We seek to take science, technology and innovation beyond the doors of laboratories, and we know that communication plays a fundamental role in this process,” she concluded.

Science Bits is a podcast produced by INESC TEC in partnership with Engenharia Rádio. The podcast started in 2020, featuring 35 episodes. Science Bits seeks to be a space for sharing stories and discussing science, technology, and innovation, with the help of INESC TEC researchers.

The awards ceremony took place on November 18, in Lisbon. 15 prizes were awarded – one for each category, plus the “Podcast of the Year” award, chosen from the winners and awarded to Fumaça. The jury, chaired by Paula Cordeiro, digital strategist and university professor, featured Bárbara Baldaia, Fernando Alvim, and Paula Neves, among others; all the members decided the nominees and winners of each category, as well as the winner of the “Podcast of the Year”. PODES, launched in 2019, is a Portcasts production, and the first and only podcast festival in Portugal; it aims to promote, acknowledge, and celebrate Portuguese programmes.
